Ipenema

What does the name of the sauna, where the cops want to take Felix, with the airline Ipenema, at the end?

reply

I think it's just to emphasise the synchronicity that has been running throughout the movie. The cop watches his colleague go into the Ipanema sauna, turns on his radio and an Astrud Gilberto song is on, which he laughs at because of the coincidence. The final scene just emphasises the synchronicity throughout the whole film. I wouldn't read too much into it.

The camera purposefully lingers on the name of the airline, so I think it's significance. It also reminded me that when Javier confronted the scriptwriter in drag that s/he mentioned one of 'her' outlandish stories involved two lovers killed in a plane crash. So I think we're meant to assume the flight is doomed and that they will die (besides, you can't have a murderer and a cheating woman waltz off into the sunset, everyone who watches movies knows the bad guys don't get a happy ending).
