Juliette Binoche was...

incredible. Both her and Benoit gave amazing performances. I don't know why is this film so underrated. It got mediocre reviews on rottentomatoes. And seeing the reviews on allocine, they were even more harsh. It seems that the main objections were about little or no characterization and bad script. And yes, some thought film gave no insight into their lives. But that really wasn't the point of this movie, we aren't even supposed to know who they are, this is a romance between two people. It's not a biography. Yes, I agree that there was no characterization, and yet I found that interesting because you see two people who are doing all kinds of things...Why? Because they are in love, and people can be crazy in love. Plus they're artists. I don't need to know what kind of people they were to try to understand what was on their mind. Well, I hope you understand what I mean... And yeah, the score was amazing.

And this movie has 0 nominations, nothing! Really sad...

Terrific film, gets no respect which is a huge shame. Critics, like the critics of George Sand often miss the boat, oh well their loss.

Don't make me laugh, your kung fu is so so.

I'm just over halfway through watching and concur that the acting is superb as are the costumes, the scenery and film sets. I'm perplexed that it is criticised for no characterisation and a bad script. The script is amazing with so many fantastic lines I want to write down and given the dialogue I fail to see how this would mean no characterisation. There's characterisations aplenty in what they do as well as what they say. At the moment I believe I have a better understanding of Musset than Sand although I really felt for her in the aftermath of her book reading and the stinging rebukes she received.

I think because de Musset is too unlikable a character. We have little to no empathy with him and so no investment in his story.
