every system has there mascot..a game about god knows what?

has anyone ever noticed that every system had its first big time game and the game was something completly random? I mean think about the premise for super mario bros. Who in the right mind came up with this idea? There two italian brothers who are plumbers...why are they italian? isn't nintendo a japanese company? but ok two italian plumbers who fight dragons, save princesses, and eat mushrooms. How in the world did this become a game? i mean at some point the company that made this game had a meeting and they were like...hey hows this for a game...and everyone at that meeting was like...yeah that sounds good! THAT BOGGLES MY FRICKEN MIND! and then you've got sega lets make a game about a hedgehog! i didn't even know there was animal called a hedgehog till this game came out. and he fights robots and collects rings? and these games only set the precedent for crap like Coot bandicoot...and i dont even know what the hell a bandicoot is. im not saying there bad games, i loved mario and sonic but there just such absurd ideas.

Actually he wasn't originally a plumber. Jumpman was indeed designed the way he was because of grapichal limitations, but he was a carpenter and not a plumber. He became a plumber and changed his name in Mario Bros (note: Not SUPER Mario Bros). He became a plumber because the premise of the game involved destroying critters that were coming out of pipes.

You're right about the reason for the name change though
