This film is like a perfect snapshot of 2000

I actually didn't see this film until a couple of years ago; I remembered it vaguely when it first came out through the first "X-Men" movie funnily enough (James Marsden was in both, they came out the same year).

Anyway, one thing I immediately liked about it is that the entire thing is like a snapshot or time capsule of that 99/00 turn of the millenium period. I know in some ways you can say that about a lot of films set in present day from any given year, but "Gossip" just captures the culture (or pop culture?) of the time so, so well.

The soundtrack, cinematography and visual style, the direction, the fashion and styling, the sets (club scenes especially), just the overall 'vibe' of the film... Adds a little bonus nostalgia factor to it, most likely unintentional to boot!

I felt the same exact thing. And while the plot is basically a 'Cruel Intentions' ripoff, the themes related to false accusations and "he said-she said" are incredibly timely with the present day.
