So I haven't watched this show in a while

I stopped watching when I stopped purchasing the games. And I stopped purchasing the games at Gold and Silver.

What did I miss? Did it stay good?

You made the right decision of stopping at the end of Johto. You didn't miss anything that was actually good, mostly so-so then slowly declining in quality as the years went by. When Misty left and Ash overcame Gary, the magic slowly left.

While I still love playing the games and in general, still love Pokémon, the show has really gone downhill. It was perhaps best to introduce a new protagonist a LONG time ago, after either Johto or Battle Frontier and just give Ash and the gang closure. I was not impressed with Diamond and Pearl, Back and White or XY.

Whats wrong with gen 3&gen 4&gen 5&gen 6
I never stopped purchasing the pokemon games

Pearl&heart gold&white&platinum&X&omega ruby&ruby&emerald are a million times better than the sinnoh seasons of pokemon and the gen 1&2 games

The Pokemon anime got worse after battle frontier and i stopped watching pokemon after ash loses to tobias

It's a mix. Some seasons are good others not so good.

The current season (X Y), is alot better than previous seasons. I haven't watched every single episode, but what I have seen in the current season isn't bad. The gym battles are worth sticking around for. I highly recommend catching the Japanese Dub of the show.

But i never watched X&Y

Season 1 is still nostalgic and always the best
In my mind, pokemon should have ended after either battle frontier or sinnoh league victors

If you grew up in the 90s, yeah. That is what I ended up doing. Of course, now I see myself watching the series again, but probably will stop at Johto. I personally think Johto has the best Pokemon until the next Pokemon introduced. Anything after Ho oh and Lugia look like "made up" Pokemon. Technically, all Pokemon are made up, however, the first two seasons actually look like the creators cared. Now you have ice cream cone Pokemon and a garbage bag Pokemon? WTF?!

THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR. COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS HERE!!!

I agree about the ice cream cone and garbage bag Pokemon, talk about sloppy, cheap, disgraceful, they've already lost their edge years ago. Yes, Anything after Johto is garbage. Ho-oh was important ever since he appeared way back in the very first episode so I say first two seasons can't stand alone without Johto to follow through on some things. Although 1st season did however have 2 episodes I didn't like such as the Kangaskhan Kid and Battle for the Badge.
