Shut the music off!!

Why is there music playing ALL the time? I keep thinking "the end of the movie is coming" but NO! That music is so annoying. I'm getting anxious because of it. Am I the only one?

reply

If you're not the only one, you should be. It's just music. If it causes too much anxiety, you could try an ativan, valium, Xanax, booze, pot, or whatever. And the Wise Up song is awesome, by the way. Good luck with the music anxiety.

Did you write this crap movie? You get so offended if someone doesn't like it. Why do u feel the need to be an ass? Don't go around telling people to take prescription drugs.

reply

I'm not telling anybody to take anything. You seem unhinged. I hope I don't read about you losing it in some mall or something like that.

lol

I'm watching this for the first time and I came here to say exactly this. It's extremely distracting and makes scenes seem overly corny to a fault.

reply

Paul Thomas Anderson does that a lot. Watch Boogie Nights for example. You just have to stop thinking about the music and feel how well it usually matches the scenes.

I thought the music really added to the feel of the film.Opinion of course.

No, you're not the only one who finds the music annoying. It's funny, because the movie starts with the song "One is the loneliest number" and it is so annoying and obtrusive that I was thinking, "Well, it's just the opening credits song, it has to be over soon. But, then again, it's so much louder than the dialogue it's obviously done on purpose - I hope the rest of the movie isn't that way..." Sure enough, it is.

I'm not sure why it would make you think the end of the movie is coming, because the soundtrack has been overpowering almost the entire movie. I'm sure this is an intentional artistic decision.

Hopefully you are finding other aspects of the movie to like. This movie came highly recommended to me from a friend whose opinions I generally respect, and so far I'm really enjoying it. The other aspects of the movie are more than offsetting the heavy-handed score for me.

The music is supposed to make you anxious.

It was Aimee Mann's album basically.

There was a lot of other incidental music, kind of repetative noise like stuff. I don't know if that was Aimee Mann.

By the way, in my brief exposure to Pandora, one thing it did was direct me to a bunch of Aimee Mann which I really loved. I had not really listened to her since her early Till Tuesday stuff that was on the radio.

And then there's her role in Lebowski!

She voiced a song written by Harry Nillson in the beginning.

I felt the same way. It made every moment seem like a pivotal moment which ended up making feel that nothing was a pivotal moment. I found the movie to he melodramatic.

reply

Melodramatic? The subject matter included dying men who had betrayed their family and a has-been celebrity and a cop that are searching for meaning. There was incest. There was cancer. There was a trophy wife coming to grips with her cheating and the fact that she actually loves her dying husband. Heavy shit!

Respect the cock!!!!!!!!!!

It gave the movie a constant sense of movement, and tied everything together. With all the different scenes/scenarios, especially near the beginning, you need something to be a constant. It was great how it made the film flow, from building up to calm, back to building again. PTA for instance said the structure was partially inspired by "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles. I thought it worked perfectly.

reply

Perfectly said. It would be awkward if it goes from scene to scene only using ambience sound. The score is magnificent.
