Personally, I appreciate that the makers tried to bring a bit od the theatre experience to the living room, for those of us who like theatre but don't have as much opportunity as we'd like for the real thing . The theatrical presentation also allowed for the film to blur the lines between fantasy and reality, putting the story in a unique realm. I really liked that. At the same time, they couldn't have done it quite that way except on film/video. Each medium has great strengths and limitations and it's interesting what happens with a hybrid of the two.
