What happened to the writer?

I think this is a great movie... I still wish they could compile a director's cut, but apparently from what I've read it's near impossible...

I was curious if anyone knew what happened to the writer ken Selden? I can't believe he didn't get more work after this... Maybe he just quit or something, but I think he could have really been an interesting voice for horror had he stayed at it.
