And I suppose the subject line was an introduction of yourself...

no, that'd be "troll"

I don't know if you realize from his ID, but the OP's a Czech guy. Perhaps he may be forgiven for misspelling a word not in his native language, and for having passionate dislike of a communist-compliant director? Even if he is a good director?

What does "communist compliant" actually mean? Given the fact that practically every film, in every country that underwent a "communist" period, had to have state approval to be shown, does that mean that every director is "communist-compliant" by virtue of them having to comply with a certain set of parameters.

I am from England and speak no Czech so I have no personal axe to grind. However, a good film is a good film is a good film. If we were to privilege the personal ideology of an artist over what they create, I can guarantee we would be appreciating a lot less art and watching a lot less films.

Many Eastern European and Russian directors played a subversive game with the communist film censors, metaphor was key. In order for them to make films they knew what they could get away with and what they couldn't, but that is hardly the definition of "communist compliant".

The guy who wrote the original comment seems to have a personal grudge against the work of Václav Vorlícek as he has posted the same derogatory and ill-informed comments on other message boards films of the director.

If the films of Václav Vorlícek were somehow "communist" propaganda, I doubt they would have survived the regime in which they were made. As it is, films like Who Killed Jessie, Three Wishes For Cinderella and 'How to Drown Dr. M. or the End of Water Spirits in Bohemia' are loved both at home and abroad. Some of his films are hilarious, some satire, some subversive and some that were just beautiful, such as the two Cinderella films he made.

It would not be so bad if this guy who was firing off these negative comments on the films of Václav Vorlícek could offer one single fact as to why he has that opinion or one single reference to the films themselves instead of wild accusations, but of course, like most "trolls", they never do.
