Just A Few Questions About The Ending

i haven't seen the movie "walking across egypt" but i've seen the two clips on youtube and have already fallen in love with the movie. partly because of johnathan taylor thomas hehe. but i have a few questions based on things i've heard about the movie.

1. i heard that JTT (wesley or whatever his character is) can not stay with Mattie and must return to his abusive home in the end =[
2. that Mattie dies

can someone please tell me what happens. i'd really appriciate it. i want to see the movie but i dont want to watch it if it's too sad so that's why i'm asking. thanks again =]

1. Wesley does get taken back to the Young Offenders Institution.

2. Mattie doesn't die.

although she has been preparing to die, choosing the coffin etc., she chooses to keep her 'funeral money' and use it to live on.

She goes to get the dog from the pound, picking up Wesley from the Centre on the way back. She's signed his release papers, they go home into the sunset.
