Not suited for children

I remember this show from about 2000 on CN, and I have no idea how this is suppose to be seen as a show for children. You have scenes with puking, snot or/and different body fluids in every episode. I mean, it grossed *me* out, and I was 16 when the show aired for the first time.
Somehow it looks like this is a direction most new shows are taking. I remember the same thing with "Cow and Chicken" and "Two stupid dogs".
Anyone feel the same way, or am I being overly dramatic here?

You are SO being overly dramatic. Hello, do you poop rainbows ?

reply

Err hello? Kids love stuff like that! They like really nasty stuff. Remember Mr Twit in Roald Dahl's book? He purposely made them as disgusting as possible because he knew the kids would enjoy seeing them go squish a lot more.

I think, therefore we have nothing in common.

reply

you be over dramatic. body fluids dont give kids nightmares or anything.

perfectly suited for children. not so much suited for their over protective parents. I personally want all the seasons to come out on DVD so I can buy em all and give my kids a good show to grow up with. Anything to keep them away from the news. I don't think that's suited for ANYONE :P

Why wouldn't the news be suited for adults?

Ha!

Ren & Stimpy was a WAY more gross-out cartoon that PPG ever dreamed of being.

In the episode about AWSM (season 4 episode 5), the vilain (the transformers car from outer space) goes: "Fools! I feed off your expulsions of manliness. The more manhood you throw at me, the harder I become."

I agree with you mads-70 because one thing i can not stand about these girls is they are more violent than thier show is rated. For example when their big movie came out several parents where i live told me they took thier children out of the movie theatres and while the fathers stayed and watched the movie they all have confirmed that the girls copy events from the 3 R rated Rambo movies in thier movie by destroying half the buildings in the city, then when they do things for that bad guy they copy events from the second Rambo movie, and then after that they copy events from the third rambo movie. What does not make sense to me is when real people do these things it gets rated R but cartoon characters can do the same things and only get a PG? that does not make sense to me because if they are doing exactly the same things that are done in R rated movies these girls should be rated R. The parents i talked to that came out of the theatres say that the movie of those girls should be rated R and this tv series should be rated PG or PG-13 and when i saw a DVD box of the first season of these girls it had PG on the back of the box! So Everyone else out there listen up what I am saying and what Mads-70 is saying is these girls are more violent than the tv stations claim but the FCC has put a PG Rating on the DVDs! If the first season DVD is rated PG on the box the tv show when aired on tv should be rated PG but Cartoon Network is getting away with the crime of falsely rating the tv shows they can make money off of to fool those stupid v chips in the tv set to let children watch shows that they really should not be watching!

I will have you know that for the last eight years me and a group of others have been researching all cartoons that have been made from 1930 to now and along with some college professors of Psycology we have came to the facts that those power puffs are more violent than the violence rating on the tv set claims because we have evedence that when the first season of those girls came out on dvd the DVD box says the violence rating on the show is PG! The main thing you should know is that cartoon network station is breaking the law by labeling this show with that Y7 rating when it does not cut out any of the scenes of violence or adult jokes when it plays the episodes of this show on that boomerang station! SO right there if the FCC's offical rating on the first seaon DVD of this show is PG then when it is played on tv it should be PG not Y7! Our research has proven the facts that the new tv shows are being shown to children who are still to young for them to watch the shows. Also I will have you know that from the research my group has done and several Psycologists have confimred that if today's children grew up watching the cartoons that where made from 1930 to what came out in early 1988 they would be better off because the older shows made in that time frame did not have characters who looked like they needed plastic surgery to fix ugly faces, then they did not overdo the special effects of rapid flashing lights so much because these new shows you have to have caution over specially if any of your family has had a stroke and has Seizures that are activated by rapid flashing lights. Also I know for a fact that anytime you have a tv station that has bad public relations to where they do not answer your questions and when they reply back they also use profanity in their replies it shows how it is best that all the older shows be what children watch and not watch any of the trash that has came out in the last 12 years!

So what if there is some violence in a kids show, there always has been and still has een.Look at all of the Tom and Jerry cartoons or Johnny Quest where he's allowed to have dangerous weapons or what about the racist propaganda in cartoons in the 1940s? Geez its just a show. Yeah they are really breaking the law that must be why the FCC and the network execs allow it to be aired? I grew up with all of these cartoons and so did many others around me and I never got into fights because I SAW IT ON TV. Geez its people like you that make up all of these claims. Plus kids television shows have been cutting down on all of this violence in the past few years anyway, so what is your point?

reply

The Powerpuff Girls is rated TV-Y7-FV. It's an action series, with Fantasy Violence, that may also have adult humor, and is aimed at a pre-teen audience. It doesn't fall under TV-PG, because that's reserved for content specifically with an older audience in mind.

reply

I will have you know that when i saw the first season DVD of this show on the store shelves and it was officially rated PG! I know for a fact that rating means not fit for preschool children or any child under the age of 10! and I feel people like you comorbid needs their rear ends spanked because one of the problems is TV shows like these that have been made in the last 15 years are promoting violence into children's minds instead of giving them some moral guidance like the older shows did. Those who badmouth the old Tom and Jerry cartoons that claim they know everything sometimes need to have the old dunce cap put on their heads! One thing that is also bad about this and other cartoons made in the last 14 years is they have started overusing rapid flashes of light in the scenes of the shows and it has been reported on world wide news that it is causing millions around the world to start having seizures and I have found it true by looking it up on medical websites.

Plus that so called cartoon network station has the worst public relations of all tv stations in the world because if you just try to get them to answer a simple question in an email they send you a message back with profanity instead! Also if you try to send them a letter via U.S. mail they refuse to reply back!

reply

First of all, I'm 29.

Secondly, You have an extremely immature style of writing for someone trying to prove a point.

Third, "I'll have you know" does not equal concrete evidence.

Fourth, PG is the Canadian television rating for the show, not the American rating.

Fifth, I haven't said anything about Tom & Jerry.

Lastly, the way you talk about the show, it sounds like you've never actually watched it.

And if adults want to show their kids this then they will. No one who likes the show cares so take it elsewhere!

reply

Whatever, if you agree... then why don't we get rid of Flapjack? Or, Chowder. It's gross. Why don't we get rid of Teletub-freaks. They make babies hug TVs so it ends up falling on them. I caught it happen one time, and luckily grabbed the TV in time. Why don't we get rid of Boobaaweirdos, it's not teaching anyone anything. Or BluesClues children will think mailboxes sing. Maybe we should get rid of real life. SOOOO MUCH VIOLENCE. OMG!!! People are making out. AH! PAPERCUT. Bodily fluids!!!! Oh no! I have a cold. There goes the mucus. Let's live in Disney. Sounds good, doesn't it? Everything's dandy, with our Hanna Hair and our mickey mouse ears or our new Christian (no offense) based world.

If your kid has a seizure, obviously, he or she is not fit for watching tv. And the adult jokes? KIDS DON'T GET THEM. Nor will they remember it was even there. How else do you think adults watch the show with their kids? It gets boring for them. Obviously, you can't see that.

If we had Reading Rainbow every freaking day, how would we cope with reality? Children need imagination to cope with things. The reason why babies cry when you leave the room is because they don't know you left. They think you just disapeared out of existance. They don't know why you left the room, all they know is you're gone. They need something to let them know what happened. Some excuse. If every adult showed their children every speck of life, they wouldn't be able to support anyone, do anything!!

It shouldn't be the FCC's job to tell what shows shouldn't be on. It's the parents responsibility to know what is fit for their children. Dora still goes on, Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow. They have that to watch. And you're complaining about children watching which shows, why aren't you talking about how they need to get out and play or explore.

Every kid doesn't watch that trash. They just need to know they can do something else. Something fun. Something better than what you call "trash".

Someone likes it, someone's offended. Have fun with your life.

Listen up Dimsum-4 you and all these other people need to look at this fact that medical science has proven that when tv shows have overdone special effects and those strobe lights special effects flash faster than three flashes in two seconds it can cause seizures. I will have you know that when I was born I had a stroke that caused me to have seizures and I can tell you it is bad how careless these tv producers have gotten in the last 15 years.

Another thing I have to say on the violence is when i walked into a Wal-Mart store and found the first season of these power puffs on DVD I saw the rating of PG on the dvd. What i question about is if the official rating on the show is PG why is the tv station allowed to rate it at a lesser violent rating when they do not edit anything out of the episodes. For an example of this look at the movie Mrs. Doubtfire and how it's rating is PG-13 if it is shown unedited. One day when i saw this on a tv station it was labeled just as PG and when i watched it they cut certain scenes and edited the language on the movie. So what I am saying is if on these girls if they have rated the DVD of the first season PG then why is the tv station allowed to rate it at a lesser violent rating when they are not editing anything out of the episodes.

One thing I have to say is with the way the tv stations are finding a way to bypass that so called V chip in the modern tvs it is allowing children to watch things they really should not watch. Also one thing you have to realize is now with both parents having to work to keep food on the table and the roof over their heads it is hard to control children and more children are getting to be lazy because they do not have parents at home when they come home from school that would instruct them to do their homework then go outside to play.

The one main thing that is wrong with the tv shows of the last 15 years is these younger producers care more for getting those stupid green pieces of paper that have dead people's pictures on them into their pockets instead of making good quality family cartoons and primetime shows like they did from the time of 1950 to 1987. I can actually say that the older versions of some shows that have had remakes are better than the newer versions because of how the older versions do not use profanity and have the young aged characters behaving better.

What I do is i have been collecting the DVDs of the older cartoons and primetime shows that have been off air for years. Of the cartoons they have released on DVD I have collected all the episodes of the 1983 He-Man, 1987 Bravestarr, and 1969 Scooby Doo where are you. I have also collected what they have so far released of the 1986 Silverhawks. You see i do not have cable tv or satellite dish tv and the local stations do not have anything decent for children to watch during the week anymore. Plus one time i had to watch over someone else's kids and I have a rule of having decent shows for them to watch instead of the bad stuff that is shown on tv now.

I am not talking about Veggie tails! I want you to know I would let my kids watch any shows made from 1930 to what premiered early 1988. Then the only shows i will not allow made from late 88 to 93 is those simpsons and that bevis and butt head. I can tell you that i am a Christian person and according to the bible a follower of Christ is supposed to raise their children properly and the way I see these new tv shows is there is pure evil in them were the older shows always taught right from wrong and that good wins over evil. Those power puffs are bad because of how they always do things with violence instead of doing things with diplomacy!

Whoa. Minerals, why do care what people on the Interwebs watch? Me and my sister watched this show all the time and we turned out pretty normal for British and American standards. Reporting somebody's post cos they disagreed with you proves you cant handle different opinions from other people and it also proves you hate when people disagree with you. Quit worrying about what other people watch. You cant just come on to a forum and expect them to follow your morals and you cant expect them to stop watching a certain tv programme because you dont like it. My pastor has never told his congregation what they cant and cant watch.

You need to understand that Powerpuff Girls is innocuous to kids. The characters are law enforcers and need to keep their city safe. And children do not react to or enact to everything they see. Its' rating as TV Y7 FV is okay (according to me), but TV ratings are the world's most irregular ratings system ever (since TV stations apply the ratings based on their own common sense.)

Kids nowadays are not as naive as you think they are.

If you have a problem with the program, don't let YOUR children watch it (Though, they might see it as an over reaction). Also, the old cartoons you talk of had very subtle innuendos and messages(Betty Boop, Tom and Jerry, Merrie Melodies, Looney Tunes). I think, being subtle is worse because it affects some kid's thinking without him/her knowing or fully understanding the issues (that were dated). Also, kids do not relate to kids being the central character in cartoons unless the kid has some talent/power/skill which gives them an upperhand as someone who can live in an adult's world. (No one cares about Popeye's nephews or Donlad Duck's nephews till they light something/someone on fire!) But kids do not replicate everything they see on television And kids like gross monsters and laser beams (note on Ren and Stimpy: body hair, nose goblins and communal baths). I like them even now. (I am 21 Y.O.). I have a very staunch anti-war stance. I am not conflicted.

People who make these cartoons expect that kids are being raised in an environment where they are being enlightened and educated about issues and hence, what they portray would not being the central source of guidance for kids.

P.S. anyone remembers the Uranus joke from Freakazoid. Genius!!! minerals, you would probably hurl , if you knew it. But, its still a joke in a cartoon.

One thing all of you on this message board need to realize is I AM A MAN not a WOMAN like the last person to post called me. One thing I have to say is I am a strong Christian Man who sees the EVIL in the new cartoons where SATAN has made these producers make shows that influence children the wrong way. I have seen how all TV is getting to where they only have shows on certain networks that have nothing but SEX, VIOLENCE, and NUDITY on them now with the stations I get. The cartoons that i see mostly now where i live have no moral guidence like the older ones made from Silent Films to 1988 DID. There is rarely ever a good family show on tv now.

THANK you! Miss Minerals was driving me in-sane!
I am 13 years old and I grew up on Reading Rainbow, BluesClues, etc. but also on PPG, Totally Spies, Ed, Ed, and Eddy. Now I watch TV-PG and TV-14 sitcoms, MAD, and even sometimes Adult Swim.
Just because I watch cartoon violence will not turn me into a psycho.
Don't get mad, get everything!
