Becker Reunion?

Rumors of a Becker reunion had the internet in a frenzy on Tuesday (November 24) as reports claimed that CBS confirmed a revival of the popular sitcom for 2016.

Can you believe it's been 17 years since Becker first aired?! (17 years, 23 days to be exact.)

Why in the world did Becker end?

When Becker came to an end after 6 years in January 2004, million viewers tuned in to say goodbye to Dr. John Becker (Ted Danson). And since then, they have been itching for a reunion.

Would a Becker reunion disappoint people?

Becker aired from 1998-2004 and is considered one of the most influential TV shows ever on pop culture. Although no original episodes have been shot since, it has remained a regular feature on many station's schedules. But Danson said he's not sure if Becker would work today. “I don't want to see old Dr. John Becker,” he told a journalist (Danson turned 67 in December). “Everyone’s going to have different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people,” he added.

Still hoping for a Becker movie?

In a recent interview, John Mahoney (who played Father Joe D'Andrea) said he can't imagine a Becker reunion hitting the big screen. “I'd rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can't believe you did that. It was horrible.’”

Co-star Jorge Garcia (who played Hector Lopez since 2003) has also previously explained, “It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,”. “It was so terrific ... If we did a Becker movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”

On the subject of whether there could be a Becker film, Shawnee Smith stated : “I think it's a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie’.”

What about a Becker reboot?

Recasting Becker for a modern reboot. Hollywood is known for remaking remakes of films or tv series and the studios might think it would be great to bring the story back with a new set of characters.

Be it in the form of a Becker reunion, a Becker movie, or a Becker reboot, if you had to start filming today, who would you cast in what role?

I agree with a lot of things said here.

A movie simply won't work as I loved this show and the laugh track used on it was the main reason many scenes were hilarious. Without the laugh track in a movie, it would be terrible.

Also, a reboot of the series will ruin the way remember the show as 22 episodes of a grey-haired John Becker would itch in our memories forever.

I do think though that a one-off episode with a laugh track and standard 30 (or even 60) minute running would be good - just to give it a modern twist on today.

They can show Dr. Becker still short tempered, however with white hair, Linda still being stupid, Margaret still being the reliable one, Reggie returning and somehow running the diner that's updated and more successful perhaps like the one in Rules of Engagement, Jake returning to New York after studying in Chicago, and working somewhere where he's successful, and drops into Reggies diner for coffee in the mornings like John, Bob returning from "vacation", and still being a lazy, sleazy building super, and hector and Chris can be pushed somewhere in the back because of how awful they were.

In my opinion it could work but probably won't happen!

If Bob and Reggie are not in there, I'm not watching. Can't watch past Chris. Writing did not match her or maybe she didn't have good comedic timing.

I agree, i mostly remember Becker with Bob and Reggie, so if a remake/reboot/reunion would not include them, then it seems pretty much a waste of potential.

Although i would still like to see Danson get mad and go off at everyone, but i never really liked the replacements, it didnt feel the same, so a reunion would probably only alienate me more.

Most TV shows that were turned into movies were stinkers. There were a few great ones, The Fugitive, Star Trek, but I can't see this as a movie. Great show though.
