the ending?!

Can someone explain why Antoine shows up with a crazy 18th century gown for Angele to change into? What was that?!
And what exactly scared the fiancee out of shooting them both? If you ask me, she should have.
Stupid ending.

Your guess is as good as mine. I don't get a lot of the French endings I've seen. Oh well. I'm very touchy about endings.

maybe the gun thing was meant to be metaphorical--the shadowy fear Angele had that something would always go wrong with any real relationship she had. She seems to have overcome the fear when she and Antoine so easily laugh the shooting off at the end and still embrace, in love. Another scene seemed to be metaphorical to me: when Angele is standing the in the train station and all these man come behind her and whisper in her ear. Just an interpretation but it seemed to make the film make sense to me.

IMO, it was symbolic - she got a 'fairy tale' ending after all, despite all her doom & gloom about true intimacy.

& I agree with the other poster that the ex showing up with the gun was also symbolic. Imo, it represented her 'doom & gloom' trying one last time to cut her down...unsuccessfully this time, tho.

"Hey, how come Andrew gets to get up? If he gets up...we'll all get up...IT'LL BE ANARCHY!!"
