AHA I KNEW I WASN'T MAKING THIS UP.

Sorry. I got into an argument with some people wether this was a real movie or not. Erm, I'll stop ranting now.

So funny...for the longest time I thought this movie was a weird dream i made up.

reply

OMG SO DID I!!!

I really couldn't see myself dreaming this up (the berries that touch the ground and disappear, etc...). But I couldn't find it until I googled 'mirror berries ground movie.' Duh! I was gonna look at all the movies ever made from 1979 to 1986. I used to have an away message describing this movie asking if anyone's ever seen it?

I can't believe I finally found it! I gotta see it/but it.

reply

I had the same experience. I couldn't figure out what this movie was, but I had vague memories about seeing something about a girl who wants to keep her grandma young. I cant believe I found this movie! Wow, good childhood memories. I thought I dreamt it up too.

reply

heheh me too. i cant even remeber how it happened. all i remember was the mirror and the peaches touching the ground disappearing. i didnt even know there was puppets til now.

i really want it. It was on ebay here in australia about 3 mths ago for 60$!!!

reply

i have NEVER met anyone else who has seen this movie!
i thought we were the only family to ever see it! haha
i can still sing the song!

reply

That is so funny! I also have never met anyone else who has seen this movie! It was one of my favorites as a kid, and I wish that I still had a copy. They just don't make children's shows like that anymore!

reply

So did I! It must be something about this movie that sticks with you but fades just enough to make you think maybe you just imagined it. That's hilarious.

reply

See, for years I had argued with one of my very close friends about the existence of a movie that had magic berries that would keep people young forever and this little girl that went through her mirror to get them for the grandmother. I remember some magic key to get somewhere, and a glass jar that closed over the berries, and a woman who turned suddenly old and withered when she couldn't get to them anymore. She didn't believe that such a movie existed, and now that I am 23 and have 2 kids of my own (she has one) I can tell her that I was right all along, that it DOES exist, and that there are a bunch of other people who remember as much as I did about it.

reply

The same thing Happened to me!!! For years I have been asking my sister and brother if they remembered this movie. It was so weird. I kept getting these memory flashes of it. The little pink dude who got trapped in the dryer and the mirror and the girl who wasn't wearing shoes and the little cabbage patch like people... Everyone told me I was out of my mind, that I made it up. I can't believe this happened to so many other people... how weird. This is so funny.

reply

How funy- I posses a treasured copy which my mother taped for me when I was proably five years old. Though the quality is not the greatest, what a great film, and a nostaligic piece of the past. The best part is that it was taped with 80's commericals and all, which are classics in their own right.

reply

omg I can't believe everyone else thought this movie was a dream!! I thought the same thing. I'm 21 and saw this as a very young child and for like 15 years I've been wondering if I dreamt the whole thing up or not. I posted a message describing what I remember of it and like 10 seconds later someone replied telling me it was the Hugga Bunch. Mum kept telling me I must have dreated it up but I knew she was wrong!

reply

it's so weird, i am 22 and for some reason i just looked this up and it is real. I thought i had just dreamt the movie up. i knew it was a show because i had the dolls. i had like 3 of the dolls and i still have 1 but i thought that the bookworm and the mirror, the witch and the rose were all a figment of my imagination because noone knew what i was talking about. it is so funny that other people thought this too

reply

hilarious! i really couldn't explain it well to anyone else... gosh, i am so thankful to know i am not crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

I used to LOVE this when I was younger! For the last couple of years I've been trying to remember what it was called. I'd ask everyone, "Have you seen a film where a girl goes through the mirror in her room and theres these puppets?" And everyone thought I was crazy! I was watching Honey, I Shrunk The Kids today and said to my friend "I'm sure that lad was in the film where the girls goes through the mirror!" AND HE WAS! Oh I'm sssoooo happy I've finally found out what its called

reply

wow i thought i was the only person who had vague memories of a girl going through a mirror and upside down sidewalks and i thought i dreamed it all as well. for the longest time, no one knew what movie i was talking about because i couldnt remember the name of the movie, and everyone kept saying it sounded like the labrynth but i knew i had never seen the labrynth. im so amazed that im not the only one who has been thinking about this for years!!

Steve Youngblood:
I think that might have been Rose Petal's Place the movie. I think there was a brief cartoon series, but there was also a movie made where a little girl has a box with a rose on it and I think her mother buries it in the back yard or something. There is a rose bush in the yard, and it starts to rain and the water drops on the roses bring the characters to life. I think the rest of the movie then was animated with Rose Petal and her friends. Hope that was what you were talking about, but that is what is sounds like. Hope that helps!

reply

Yeah, it definitely sounds like Rose Petal Place. Marie Osmond is the celebrity you're probably thinking of. The little girl (played by Nicole Eggert) had to move and was upset to leave behind the flower garden in her backyard. She cried and her tears landed on the flowers causing them to come to life. The mean lady you speak of is probably Nastina, the evil fat spider. I actually still have the VHS and a couple books from when I was a kid!

I'm dying to see The Hugga Bunch again to remember everything I've forgotten. I only remember bits and pieces. I know I wasn't freaked out about having another world through a household mirror because I used to hug my dog to try to go through the mirror on the back of the bathroom door! LOL! But I was extremely mad that the girl tripped and the fruit disappeared!

I'm so excited that its real i thought it was just me being weird and anyone i asked bout it also thought i was strange!! so happy now, im not alone or hallucinating weird lands with peaches and ppl who hug yay!!! this would have bugged me forever

reply

Haha, ditto. I used to poll all my friends on this movie and not 1 of them had heard of it or remembered it...until today! I was at the videostore with my roommate, and we somehow ended up in the kids section and i mentioned it. She totally remembered watching it! I need to find this movie, just for old times sake!

reply

I did the same thing...for about 10 years I searched and searched for this movie. ALL I knew was that it had a little girl and some sort of puppet and that the fruit was locked behind glass and it made you young! This is awesome.

reply

god i absolutely loved this movie! i was sooo terrified of it though, it was hilarious. i thnk that my cousin owns it. she owns all of the old childhood movies like rose petal place, rainbow brite, original strawberry shortcake, lol. its funny considering that i am a child of the nineties yet i grew up with eighties movies.

reply

Wow. It seems everyone has had the same experience as me. I remember seeing this film a couple of times when I was little and loved it, but for the longest time, I couldn't remember the name. And it seemed so surreal that I too started wondering if it was just a dream I had. The details had started to fade, and all I could remember was that it had a girl go through her mirror into another world, she could see her world from the other side of the mirror, and there was something having to do with red berries or cherries or strawberries. But then last year, a friend of mine said, "Okay, I know you tend to know really obscure movies, so I was wondering if you know this one. It has a girl that goes through her mirror to another world. And there were, like....these red berries." I was like "Oh my God! I've been wondering what that movie is too!"

I kept thinking it was some version of "Alice in Wonderland" that I wasn't familiar with. But everytime I looked one of those up, it didn't seem to be the right film. So, yesterday, I posted a question on a bunch of Alice in Wonderland boards with my vague description, and someone mentioned this film. I did not recognize the name at all, but from what I've read, it does seem to be the correct film. Now I've got to try to track down a copy and make sure it's the right movie!

reply

Yes! I loved this movie when I was younger, and I am 22 this year! What I remember of the movie is that a young girl discovers a world through her mirror where the hugga bunch live. She doesn't want her grandmother to be 'put out to pasture' - so she goes to hugga land through her mirror to find the young berries - which can make a person younger or something to that affect. The queen/ scary witch of hugga land has the tree that grows the young berries in her castle and is sealed under some kind of big glass enclosure which can only be unlocked with a special looking key. In order to get to the castle the girl needs to see bookworm and I think I remember her climbing a whole lot of books to get to him. Anyway he warns her against it but then shows her the way. She then boards some big thing (some kind of animal which I think was an elephant) and they begin their journey. Once there my memory is really fuzzy and I think she basically goes to take some of the young berries in a glass jar, but she leaves the key lying on the floor next to the tree, the glass enclosure starts to go down and the queen / witch sees that the key will be trapped there forever and that she won't be able to eat the young berries so she quickly goes to grab it but her arm becomes stuck underneath it only inches from the key, then before our eyes the youngish looking queen becomes really old and starts to wither away. The girl and her puppet friends race back toward the mirror to get the young berries to her grandmother. As she is coming through the mirror, the girl trips and the young berries fall to the ground and dissapear on impact. (by the way I think the young berries were a orangy/yellow colour). Then I really can't remember much else but I seem to remember the film ending happiliy, i.e. the grandmother isn't being put out to pasture and the girl understands that what is happening isn't a bad thing. Anyway I would love to see the movie again - it has been too long- at least 15 years! I wish they would release a copy on DVD!
