15 Years Today!

As the subject line states, it was 15 years ago today that "FF:TSW" was released in the theater (at least here in the US). I was there opening day. Saw it at least 3 times in the theater and I think the film set a visual standard that even all these years later has yet to be equaled, much less surpassed. Not a perfect movie for sure but one that is very under appreciated.

 The IMDb Homepage brought you here too? I'm actually impressed they were promoting this film.

For what it's worth, the animation was amazing at the time it was released, much better than most studios churn out today even. What I do not understand, why did the story have virtually nothing to do with Final Fantasy lore at the time?

Indeed! lol And I was too. Glad they did though.

I can’t believe it is nearly 20 years old (19 1/2 I think it was a summer movie)

I was also surprised this movie was being promoted with a "15th anniversary " celebratory headline on the main page.

I also saw this in theaters on its opening weekend. It was a gorgeous film to look at but it felt like you were coming into the final 1/3 of a Final Fantasy story. They really should have aimed for making this into a trilogy or something, and start the story much earlier in its process.

I mostly remember this for being a pretty substantial bomb.

I remember seeing this opening day while on vacation in Prince Edward island, Canada when I was 16. I loved it even as a big final fantasy fan (the 7 era he), I didn't understand why Hironobu Sakaguchi went on this big project with a kind of boring story and horrible acting. The visuals still made it worth it.

Its sad that it flopped hard and put Square Pictures out of business.

Great to see IMDb is talking about it!
