7th grade science teacher hated this show.

Every teacher was required to air this in homeroom at the end of the day. I think it was called cable in the class, and there were other shows like Wishbone. My homeroom was with my science teacher, and whenever BNTSG came on, he would be like 'Do you guys actually wanna watch this crap? I can't believe this guy makes millions doing the same stuff I do. Any time you guys feel like seeing some real science you can pay me a visit.' I think he was joking most of the time though.

wow... he sounds awesome. I remember wishbone but I never watched it class though it was on PBS. I think Bill Nye was a douche kind of =) and now that I think about it your teacher was right. I guess the harder/dirty jobs are paid less which is kind of bs :] sorry rambling

its just some jelous loser who makes little to no money in the public school system. Or a republican who thinks the majority of the Scientist Community are idiots or making "fake science", which is not true since republicans are the ones creating fake science today, saying Global Warming is fake.. lmao..

I agree with your science teacher. There is too much crap in it an too little information but I guess it is for kids 10 years and younger. I was 16 when I watched it and there aren't other science shows at the same time.
When the ending came on with the music video, I would often change channels.

The old clips from the 1950's in it were interesting.

Because it's a 20 min show with about 3 min of actual information. The creators of this show assume that kids are stupid and only have a 30 second attention span, so they completely pack the show with "zany" sound effects and actors making "funny" faces. It follows Disney's philosophy of "successful kid's TV series."

For example... watched the amphibian episode with my daughter. The show spent about 5 minutes repeating "they don't have scales because they are amphibians! So they aren't reptiles and they aren't fish! Because they don't have scales, because they are amphibians, so they aren't fish! And they aren't reptiles, because they don't have scales! Because they are amphibians!" etc etc etc etc all the while Bill was making silly faces and the camera zoomed in and out. Even my daughter was rolling her eyes. It's not funny and kids really aren't that stupid... they have an amazing capacity to absorb information if you relate it to them. That's why shows like Mr Wizard and 3-2-1 Contact are classics and Beakman's World and Bill Nye are wasted potential.

I'm a science teacher and think Bill is great for kids who have little attention span. For those 5-10 kids in each class that have info go in one ear and out the other, or simply zone out in class, Bill will hold their attention and give them a few pertinent facts, which may help them with their assignments. The kids that don't need Bill to learn, are rewarded with a bit of entertainment.

My Granddaughter saw the Bones and Muscles show in her 7th grade science class. She loved it. She has attention problems so she is one child that will learn from it.
