ambiguous ending

So who committed the last murder? Why did the art buyers in the last scene express interest in the priest's artwork? Is the movie hinting that the priest is the new serial killer?

reply

The Dennis Hopper character, Luis, committed the last murder. The police learn in the same scene that the murder was committed twelve hours before, prior to the arrest of Luis. That is why the detective, the uncle, orders that the press be told of this fact, so that the public is not fearful that there is a copycat killer.

The art buyers in the last scene are looking at the paintings of the Dennis Hopper character, Luis. They are fascinated by the "killer" paintings and want to know the price of one of the paintings. That is why the art dealer is smiling at the end. She knows she can make a "killing" on the sale. There is no hint of the priest, played by Richard Grieco, being the killer.
