why was it called Light it up?

Why did they name the movie this? Does the title refer to when they set those desks and chairs on fire? or is it a reference to the "flame" that was lit for change in the school and their lives? What am I missing?

It was probably the scene where Robert Ri'Chard lights that candle in the attic where he lived.

I don't think you're missing anything. What you want is that perfect line that says "Hey, let's light it up." In this movie, there wasn't any.

Usually when there's not an overt reference to the movie's title, then the theme occurs again and again. You noted two instances of the theme, there's more of that throughout the movie, different allusions to "light it up" I didn't pay attention to the movie in the beginning, but I bet there's prolly a historical 'light it up' allusion in Knowles teaching lecture to the kids too.

"Light it up" instances I noted: Stating their demands on the internet (lit up the 'net)

Their actions lit up the airwaves: The media: first negatively then positively.

They lit up Ziggy's sanctuary with camp burners and revealed his murals. (Murals that would yearly light fires in future artists?)

Anyway you get the idea.

Because the only way you can enjoy this movie is to fire up a joint and smoke it.
