Translation of the title

'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' is a cool-sounding title, even if you don't speak Hindi. 'Something is Happening' is a very dull title. Can anyone suggest a translation that captures the film's energy and general bounciness?

well...when they say something is happening.....they probably mean something is happening in my heart. They feel something and so therefore that is what they are trying to say.

u could also say it means Things Happen! lol

reply

Really?? Well theres the downside of not knowing Hindi!! But yes I do think 'something is happening' is an understatement for the movies name! The movie is the best it should have a more wow name.

reply

Well it means "Something is happening in the heart" Which on the DVD case, you will notice theres a little blurb or tagline leading into the title, which says "You know you're in LOVE when......

KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI (trans: something is happening in the heart) if you look at the subtitles in the actual song lol.

KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI (trans: something is happening in the heart)
actually Dil means heart so KKHH just means when something is happening

Indians don't have the best grammar? What the heck does that mean? That sentence is grammatically fine in Hindi but of course a literal translation in English will look strange. The same thing goes if you were to literally translate English to Hindi.

It means "Something Happens"

"I will never let go, Jack. I'll never let go."-Rose DeWitt Bukater From TITANIC (1997)

The translation "Something is Happening" is a literal one but it doesn't encompass the emotion of the Hindi wording. The closest I can poetically get is "Something's Happening in my heart" which makes it sound like a heart attack, think we gonna have to turn to Lord Byron or Shakespeare to get it completely right!

I think "Love Happens" would be a decent english translation. It's difficult to sound poetic in English without using more than just a couple words...that's the beauty of many foreign languages including Hindi.

When he is talking In the school hallway, it's translated, "Something Just Happens." I think it's a little better expressed in English that way.
