Could you help me, I'm quite confused (religious question)

Hi!

My questions are not specific to this film but there's a few scenes in it which illustrate them well:
Rahul and Tina met in an Hindu temple so I've assumed they are both Hindu. Later, the scenes in Khanna's home confort me in that thinking. And all of a sudden, their daughter little Anjali start to pray (very successfully) like a Muslim under the sweets looks of her grandparents. Is this could have happened in real life ? Other exemple, why Rahul and Anjali in Kabhi kushi kabhie Gam start to refer at Allah in the song at the wedding? Even if they where at a Muslim wedding (I think so), this seems odd to me...

In a general way, until they pray, I can't tell which character is Hindu, Muslim, Christian (not sure I have seen some else where than in "Kal ho naa ho"), or from other religion; I'm getting it for Sikh men though but not for Sikh women. So in Indian's movies (and in real India) is there a way of knowing the religion of a character (person) at first sight? And is it relevant to know (I mean could it explain some reaction or enlighten characters)?

Thanks for your help, and sorry for bad english.

Anjali starts praying like a muslim because Rifat Bi, the housemother at St. Xavier college whom they were visiting, is muslim. I think the idea is that Anjali was so desperate she decided to pray immediately while the prayer mat was still lying there and that she sees no difference between the gods of different religions. But it also seems a gesture of solidarity by the director in an effort to unite all Indians. I'm not Indian, but this was the impression I got.
