guilty pleasure

I have to say that I really love this flick. I have spent the better part of the last 20 years working in video stores and developed a taste for movies that give exactly what was promised. This movie did not try to win awards, it simply came out and gave you big dragons, gore, animal rampagings and jill. The acting is good compared to the made for sci-fi channel garbage coming out today ("Sharks in Venice"... really?). I also loved the whole 'Lord of the flies' wigout the kid does in the end.

Not a steller flick but a fun way to pass an hour and a half... kind of like "Blood surf"

Yup. Liked this as a kid, then forgot about it, only to find it again recently. And it's still as fun as I remember. Well done special effects (most of the time), fun 'predator on an island' plot, and some good Komodo kills make this a good way to kill 90 mins with your friends... don't believe the 3/10 vote...

Jurassic Park had a major influence on me, so I naturally loved this movie (except for the scene where the lead male climbs into the helicopter; I hated the fact that he survived).

Don't get me wrong, I love low-budget horror movies but this movie had no redeeming features whatsoever! Terrible script, characters you do not care about, no character development, etc. I was not expecting 'Jurassic Park' by any means, but a piece of crap low-budget shocker I have seen called THE EDEN FORMULA is still much better!

You're crazy in the head if you think the Eden Formula is better.

At least Komodo had good special effects.

Even though the effects were a lot worse in The Eden Formula, it actually had an engaging narrative and good performances and I liked how they attempted to combine a Die Hard style action movie with a monster movie! This movie was just a load of crap in every way!

Look, the Eden Formula, to me, is an unwatchable piece of garbage. Komodo, while it doesn't have the best story in the world boasted impressive special effects for a direct-to-video film (it's budget is 15 million BTW). Yes, the story in Komodo is terrible and has a lot to be desired. But the fact of the matter is, it's still slightly above similar films.

well it me took 5mins to work out the script was total bolluxs and it didnt improve after that either a shame really as some of the film elements were well done...i rarely give low budget film like this a low rating because i usually find something to like in the worse of films but this was just irritatingly bad

I thought I liked this too -- until I found and watched it again. The motivations for all the characters and the company were so absurd that it just took me out of the movie. Nothing made any sense. For example, the evil oil company was blackmailing Billy Burke's character because he had fled from the police after his wife disappeared on the island, no doubt eaten by Komodos. All Burke had to do to clear himself was reveal the existence of the Komodos, and it wasn't like it would have been hard to prove they were there. However, he is instead trying to exterminate the Komodos for the oil company, so . . . what? they can help him stay in hiding for the rest of his life after he destroys the evidence that will prove his innocence? Yeah.

The whole deal with oil company hiding the Komodos because they were endangered was equally nonsensical. Now if the oil company had deliberately brought them there and had been conducting illegal experiments on them, or if the company had something else on the island they desperately wanted to hide (toxic waste, etc.), it might have made sense. The point is that it would have been very easy to come up with a halfwitted reason for what was happening, but everything every character did was absurd if you thought about it for two seconds.
