Maybe I'm just sheltered?

I laughed at the back of the DVD case when I saw this movie for the first time last night. It says something along the lines of the movie being this profound look at the dating scene, or something along those lines.

Er.. WHAT dating scene were YOU a part of? Not that I haven't gone to a club, before, but I don't think I've ever gone while prancing around in a friend's room discussing the art of blowjobs and how I want to get screwed tonight. Even my boyfriend said, "Er.. do people like this exist?"

I thought Ron Livingston was funny in this movie, and it was shot in an interesting way, but sadly, Tara Reid's boobs are the only thing that gets discussed (and for many people was probably the only interesting thing about this movie). (And what an accurate portrayal of Tara Reid as she truly is - drunk, driving like an idiot, acting like a total whore, and vomitting out of a car door!)

Sorry. Did I say that out loud? :)

My initial reaction to these characters was to not like them, they were self- absorbed, sex crazed uncontrolled drunks.
Yes there are people like this at the extreme end of the spectrum, hopefully.

I don't know why, but this is one of the funniest things I've ever read.
It's one of those things you somehow think of as totally funny, but not making you laugh, I only laugh at the inside, and damn, i laugh a lot that way.

I'm thinking a lot like you at most of the mentioned points, and the last sentences were superb you totally had me there. A good read. Thanks for that

ummmm.. you're all either ignorant or pretentious.. i dont know about girls but that is EXACTLY how guys behave BEFORE CLUBBING. if your boyfriend says otherwise BREAKUP WITH THE M*U*T*H*A*F*U*C*K*A!

"do people like this exist?"

Think we found one, up there, above me :)

"Get your own tauntaun!"

Most of my friends act like this. Especially when they're drunk, except they don't ever rape anyone. So yes there are many people like this.

having been in a sorority, which required us to go to weekly "functions" (parties) with fraternities, i say - yes. i've know people in that scene & have been a part of that scene. i've been to my fair share of raves and transvestite bars. i went clubbing five nights a week for several years. and gasp! most of the people i hung out with were and are decent, fun, respectable folks.
so yes, people like this exist. you may be surprised that half of the time it's the people you least expect: the ones who graduate with honors, the ones who don't have an addiction, the ones with influential careers and just as much of a "good" side to them as the so-called boring people (although no one is EVER truly boring). of course there are also the jerks and the sexually promiscuous who are stereotypically associated with this group, but there are jerks amongst us all, even the quiet ones.
imho if you can't relate to the situations in this movie, you might be a little on the sheltered side. not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

I grew up in Malibu, Cali, and go to school in L.A and yes their are very pretentious, self-absorbed, non-thinking ppl in this city that not only act this way but think it's cool.
It's sad to say but women you need to be careful if you have a reputation of getting fall down drunk, blacking out and sleeping around no one is going to believe you if you do ever get raped.

Gee, the author of this thread has nothing but high esteem for Tara Reid.

I guess it depends on the city, but 4 guys going out meeting up with 4 girls and all 4 pairing off over the course of the night and all 4 having sex is a stretch. There is always 1 or 2 wingmen who wind up just keep a girl occupied and driving her home so the other guys can have sex with the girls they paired off with.

reply

LOL, ya think? Even in group-socializing, there's usually one poor guy who gets the short end of the stick.

reply

Here's to the wingman. You can't give enough credit to this position and the good people who take it on.

reply

Yep, in certain cities this behavior is not rare. Though my girlfriends and I don't go around discussing how great giving blow jobs is. Nor does anyone I know strap men to their bed in bondage. I think the dialog between the girls was way off (most likely because it was written by a male) but the clubbing, the blackout drunk getting into trouble and being castrated for it, the desire for connection in a shallow vapid scene... that all seemed pretty resonant. The black haired girl getting it on with her friend's backup man only to be completely ignored, I've definitely seen that happen.
