Such a sad story

I felt really bad for the mom, who obviously needs psychiatric care that her husband should have gotten her. Especially when it started to effect the other kids. Poor "Doc" had to eat the invisible kids food, mess up her room, mess up and make her bed, etc. And perhaps the little boy Sam faced even more negativity from it, because he believed he really had a sister who he couldnt see and who eventually died. Thats a horrible pain for a little kid, especially since it wasnt real. Throughout the whole movie I just want to punch the dad for not getting his wife help and protecting his children from her mental illness but making them participate in it. Saddest part is this kind of stuff really happens.

I think that the dad needed to leave the situation as it was because he was concerned that his wife was going to be institutionalised if he sought help for her. Look what happened when the nanny tried to intervene. As her husband said, the mother needed to be in control of 'the game.' The mother healed herself of her grieving problem in her own time.

Neither "Doc" or Sam were emotionally or mentally harmed by going through this. And Sam indicated by his words at the end, saying he did not want the next child to be invisible, that he knew she was not real. The father did not go any further with professional help because his wife did not want to be institutionalized and he did not want that either. I totally understand that. It all worked out in the end and that is what matters.
