The last great Roman Republic/Empire movie

sadly

Rome (2005-2007) was enjoyable with a great cast too, I'd love to see more Roman Republic/Empire epic movies as well, it's over twenty years now since Gladiator!

reply

rome was one of my favorite shows!! the first season was insanely good

reply

I always wish they had made more than two seasons, I'd have loved to have seen Caligula and Nero portrayed in that show.

reply

yeah it is a shame they didnt make more. i gotta rewatch it. been a while since i seen them. loved the environments they created for that show it felt so alive

reply

Yeah same, HBO/BBC deemed the show too expensive, it was supposed to have a much longer run, then just a few years later HBO had the mega hit Game of Thrones on their hands!

reply

one of those series i have been meaning to watch.

reply

I'm sure you'd enjoy it! 😉

He means MOVIES, not TV shows.

You might like “Fall of the Roman Empire,” an older movie from which “Gladiator” borrowed. It’s not a perfect movie but it had some truly epic sets and battles and memorable scenes. I saw it fairly recently and felt it held up quite well.

i watched it a year ago and loved it. great movie. underrated

👍🏻

Attila came out after this, low budget but actually quite awesome in my opinion.

reply

Yeah, this was great. Western culture/history seems to be out of favor right now though in Hollywood.

Barbarians (on Netflix) was a pretty well done TV series, although the Romans were the bad guys and it was low budget.
