Why did Daisy start ...

Just wanting to know why Daisy wanted the vallium off Susanna and Lisa when she's in her own place. She wasn't taking them when she was in the hospital, so why did she start when she left?

She couldn't deal with the real world.

She was alone, overweight, deppressed and afraid.

Of course she wanted something to calm her down. Thinking about the state of mind she must have been in to do what she did (with no Valium) must have been terrifying. Sad.

The reason she didn't take the valium in the hospital was because it slowed her bowel movement. Outside, she could binge on as many laxatives as she wanted so it wasn't an issue anymore.

My personal opinion is, having seen the movie several times, that in the hospital she was "protected" from her fathers abuse/sexual advances so she did not need mind altering meds in there. At her own place, her father was probably raping her on a daily basis and she just could not (understandably) cope and wanted to numb herself of the emotional pain.

Because she's an addict?

Daisy didn't take the Valium in the hospital for 2 reasons:

1. She didn't need it, since her father had no way of having incest with her there.

2. But the real reason was, she was saving it for when she was released.
Like someone else mentioned, she knew deep down that her sexual relationship with her father was wrong yet couldn't bring herself to admit it & stop it....so she took the Valium to numb things.
