This mental hospital is no locked ward.

I think its funny that the movie makes such a big deal about a girl going to a voluntary mental hospital.

She might as well be on holidays. She and her friends cavort round the hospital at will at night. They break into a Doctor's office, they play bowling in the basement, then they take themselves out of the grounds to roam around the town.

Winona never looks too uncomfortable in this cushy hospital.

Why was this even made into a movie, let alone a book? - her experiences in there are pleasant, and she looked contented enough to stay in there too.

It would have been better to make the movie in a locked ward. Forget the memoir. That would have made things a whole lot more interesting, rather than this self-indulgent account of a spoilt little rich girl who has a brief visit to an ordinary voluntary mental ward.
