A very ironic scene....

I`ve watched this movie several times, and it always amazes me when she dipped her toes in the swimming pool. The pool is emptied out because a "Colored Woman" had her skin in that water, and they don`t allow black people in the pool. It always strikes me how ironic it is that when she comes out, there are black men in the pool cleaning it out after it`s been emptied. It`s OK to be in there cleaning it....just don`t swim in it. I remember this sort of discrimination, and I`m still amazed at the stupidity of it all.

The scene shows how racism affected many details of daily life in our country.

that pool scene made me ashamed to be white. I am sure if I lived thru that time I would find ways to subvert the system. the injustice is galling.

still, I always wondered if the key to dandridge's incredible charisma were those challenges which she had to overcome in order to succeed as a black woman in a still-segregated country.
