Halle and Dorothy (spoilers)

When Halle was dressed as Carmen Jones the resemblance to Dorothy Dandridge was unbelievable,I mean you still knew it was Halle Berry, but these women are almost the same size and height,(yeah I know camera angles ,make up ,etc makes a difference) but WOW,and the fact both women are from here (Cleveland) what were the chances of that happening?

the movie it self was very good to me,it just shows that anyones life is interesting, from her mothers friend (was it her lover?) to her relationships with various men, to her questionable death, but the swimming pool in Vegas was just terrible,by viewing this film ,it willmake me study and learn more about Ms Dandridge

P.S. did the party with Eva and Marilyn really happen like that?
YOU DONT HAVE TO BUMP THIS!BUT PLEASE RESPECT IT!

for such a beautiful woman and a brillent actress to be treated like that was so discusting but so true, it's sad that all her talent (dorethy) was clouded by the colour of her skin.

It seems she had problems other than prejudice - personal, emotional problems that ruled her life and hastened her death.

What say there, Fussy Britches? Feel like talking?

Same size, shape ,color, smile and background. Dorothy died 1965, and Halle was born a year later... can some of you say, Reincarnation....who knows. ... When Halle won her Oscar she dedicated it to Dorothy Dandridge , who never won one. Dorothy was the first African-American to be nominated for a "Best Actress" Oscar. Halle, became the first African-American to win "Best Actress" at the Academy Awards.

This is a response/answer to the initial question about whether or not the party scene really happened the way it's portrayed in the film.
Anyway, I do think and believe that it could have occurred just like that because in Ava Gardner's autobio it is mentioned by Lena Horne that at a lot of parties that they went to the two of them(Lena & Ava) would end up under the piano because the parties would be so crazy. I don't know if that's the only part you were referring to but it's just a little info to have...

This is in response to the similarities between the two actresses. If I'm not mistaken, Halle was able to wear at least one of Dorothy's dresses without alteration, maybe more. That's unreal!!! Another is not so positive, to say the least. It's their relationships with men. Not a great track record for both. I love to, and believe I have always blamed it on the men, but Dorothy was abused as a child, for years, by one of her mothers female lovers, and this contributed to her problems with intimacy. Halle described herself as a " jerk magnet " she was always dating someone that everyone warned her not to. This carried into her much publicized marriages to Dave Justice and Eric Bennet(?) It's rumored that she was physically abused by a very famous actor who at the time was her boyfriend, to the degree that her hearing is damaged in one ear. ( withholding the name for lack of validity ) How could anyone be so cruel to these incredible goddesses? I don't believe in reincarnation, but you could make a convincing argument with these two beautiful talented women.

You brought up some sad yet obvious connections between Berry and Dandridge that had not occurred to me; however, may have contirbuted to the richness of Berry's performance in this movie.

I don't see any resemblance to Miss Dandridge and Berry. Miss Dandridge had natural beauty while Berry has had nose jobs and she's just a cute girl.

you know its been a while since i wrote the first post and i have realized that Ms berry has had a nose job , when people change their look just for acceptance or low self esteem its really sad , no matter who you are

I was watching a documentary about Dandridge and I couldn't help but see the similarities between them. Both beautiful, born in Cleveland, grew up without a father, had very bad relationships with men, after both were rewarded or recognized for powerful performances in Hollywood, their careers took a nose dive, both had a sister that they were estranged from, (when was the last time you've seen a pic of Halle and her sister?) . Both had a daughter. Although I must say I do believe they both had a nip or tuck to improve their looks. just curious that's all.
