Environments and circumstances don't make humans cry. They make humans either prey victims or heartless predators. Even the survivors who refused to become predators were still victims. They kept their lives but little else.
Yeah, the last scene was heartwrenching, but it was because people like me had the great fortune not to have witnessed or lived through it. When you're embroiled directly into tragedy like that, you don't have the luxury to cry and sob. You have to steel your heart in order to keep your sanity.
