No wonder there used to be no message board!

People are making such a nasty fuss about this movie!

Puh-LEEZ! I like this movie, & I've got a few friends who like this movie, & they don't give a damn about any of the stuff you guys call bad!

Flame & kill me it you want, but I say that this is one of the greatest DTV movies of all time!

I have spoken my two cents!

And don't kill me just 'cause I like this movie! I'll love it forever, & you little a**holes can't stop me!

Sorry. (blushes & does an Anime-type sweatdrop ^_^;; )

It's just that people are making such a nasty fuss over this movie, & sometimes they don't bother to listen to others' opinions about it, & it kinda bothered me, & well, you know...

And even if this sequel DOES suck (which I'm not saying it does), I have seen worse movies.

Wel, at least most of them stated their (seemly valid) reasons for disliking the movie, instead of just writing, "OMG, diz moovee sux!!!!" over and over. The main reason these people don't like the 'Secret of Nimh 2' is because it doesn't follow the original. I know I was pretty upset when the sequels to the Land Before Time came out (Come on, they burst into Barney-esque song every other scene. The orignal had ONE song, sung over the end credits.).

I like the LBT sequels, but you can believe they stink if you want. I'm not gonna stop you.

Dear Lord, people, were you awake watching this? For one thing, it can't be good if Don Bluth has washed his hands of it. *Ahem* Let me state my opinions...

First, never mind the fact that it's a musical, there are so many plot holes it's unbelievable:

1. Why would Auntie Shrew stand up for Nicodemus? She never liked "those hairy barbarians"!
2. When did Nicodemus make that prophecy? He died before, and there was no mention of it.
3. Why would Timmy be surprised to learn that Jenny could read? He could read--remember, Johnathan taught even the kids. Besides, using this movie's own math, Timmy was at least 2 years old when Johnathan died. And, since the book extrapolates on the possibities of DNA passing down the enhancement, he could have learned faster.
4. Speaking of that, why is Johnathan like an idol? He was a "dear friend", not a savior!
5. It was "Dr. Schultz", not "Dr. Valentine"!
6. NIMH does not look like a Gothic Castle.
7. It was the lost NINE: Eleven mice-2 mice: 9 mice.
8. Where did the electric thing come from? It was injections.
9. Martin's evilness is nullified by the complete undoing of it at the end. Besides, the accent is only explained by the fact that it's Eric Idle.
Most importantly: 9. WHERE IS THE STONE??

Also, WHY did they make it a musical? Those songs were horrible! Maybe they were okay for a kids' movie, but The Secret of NIMH is not a kids' movie, OK? It's violent, scary, and it has strong viewpoints that shouldn't be shown to minors. Let's just pray that there's no "Secret of NIMH 3"!

reply

That's only your opinions. I still like it.

And yes, a lot of those plot holes make it...less-than-perfect...but:

1. Eric Idle ROX!!!! The Evil Martin, in fact, is one of my favorite characters in the movie.

2. A lot of my G.M.D. (Great Mouse Detective) fanfic characters are based on/modeled after characters from "The Secret Of NIMH 2".

3. Maybe they didn't NEED the Stone, so they threw it away or something.

4. If you don't like musical-sequels, then you don't like Broadway.

5. Maybe three of The Lost 9 died, & the survivors were the Lost 6.

6. Maybe NIMH got a temporary makeover, I don't know...

7. Dr. Schultz COULD have retired, or died, even.

8. Maybe the mud incident in the first movie taught Auntie Shrew a lesson...

9. Sometimes in the first movie they treat him like an idol -- at least to me.

10. Timmy was surprised that Jenny could read? I never even noticed!

11. Who said Dr. Schultz did the electric thing?

12. Nicodemus might have done it BEFORE the movie...

AND I STILL LOVE THIS SEQUEL, & THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN SAY OR DO THAT'LL MAKE ME CHANGE MY MIND, YOU NOT-SO-SEXY MF!

I saw this movie before the first, I was over my friends house, his sister was watching it and I checked in, since at the time, I sort've liked animation-movies,I sort've liked it, but I don't think the care-bear-ish singing wasn't needed at all, sort've dragged on though I sort've like evil martin's song :) but remember; I saw that movie before the first, so I was really lost, I then found a two-VHS tape box set with NIMH 1 and 2, of course I picked it up because I didn't own the 2nd anyways, I watched the 1st one first, then the 2nd, and I was a little confused at the change the 2nd had, I don't NIMH 2 sucks, but it really shouldn't be a sequeal to such a dark movie like NIMH 1, both of them are good in their own way.

reply

Hmmm...so you think it's OK...that's fine, too. Just so long as you don't hate it to the core, I'm cool with it!

And I looooove The Evil Martin's song the most! (In fact, he's one of my favorite characters! )

I too saw the second before the frist and I loved the second one. Then i rented the first one and now that is my favorite movie of all time. I watched the first one and then began to see all of the flaws of the second one. It bothered me that there were so many missing things, wrong information, and just plain random crap thrown into the second, but i still like the second. Not because it is a good strong movie, which it isnt, but because it introduced me to the best movie ever in my eyes. Also a question to Lash100000, HAve you ever seen the first movie and do you like it and see all of the major flaws between the first and the second movie?

reply

Well, as long as you say it doesn't suck, I'm cool with it!

And in answer to your questions...

1. Yes, in fact I own the first movie. I love it, too!

2. When I first saw the two movies together, I noticed a few flaws...but somehow my mind told me to enjoy the movie anyway, even if it has over 10 plot holes.

I think it makes a good kid's movie, but for me, it doesn't live up to the first. The first was a dark film, great atmosphere. This was... well, like I said, a kid's movie. I think as a movie on its own, it's not that bad but when viewed as a continuation of the story in the first S.O.N., I'm somewhat disappointed.

If they do indeed make another sequel (as this site rumors), I hope they make it a darker film and try to keep in line with and further the plot from the first one.

I haven't seen the first film but I have seen this sequel and I liked it. I also enjoyed SOME of the LBT sequels.

So I see. I'm actually quite glad that some people can agree over such controversial subjects as this.

3. Maybe they didn't NEED the Stone, so they threw it away or something.

I know this thread is obsolete, but I just want to say this:

Yes... throw away a magical stone that is capable of great good in the right hands. What are you stupid or something?

If you like it that is fine. You also have no taste whatsoever either. Its like someone who says they like good pizza and then goes diving into a dumpster to get at 3 day old pizza telling everyone its still good pizza.
First off you loose pretty much any say on the matter because of your opinion. Secondly you concept of good is questionable at best.

This movie was complete and total crap. Period. Both from an animation standpoint, a plot standpoint, a rating standpoint (I mean really. Books to replace a stabbing from the original movie?), and pretty much every other conceivable standpoint you could think of. Its crap. It's MGM's way of trying to make a fast buck pure and simple.

I saw this movie when I was younger, and it's not THAT bad....I'll understand the dissapointment froms fans of the original will have.
In fact I hadn't heard of Secret of Nimh until I saw this. Years later, I decided to check out the first one and liked it, and also made the second make more sense a little bit. Nimh 2 is ok.
