Curious

Hey, I've seen Morvern Callar and loved it and I'd heard of this movie, but I was wondering what sort of content is in it, sexuality, nudity, violence, language, etc? Please, without spoilers if anyone gets the chance.

Life of the poor, dispossessed. Not a glimpse of the rich bastards. Not one.

The best answer to your question is all of those. The film is very racy in my opinion (of course I'm used to the American style of film production so perhaps I'm slightly pampered). That is not to say the film is not excellent and incredibly enjoyable, it just lays out some very untraditional content.

Ratcatcher is a very different kind of movie to Morven Callar. I think it's better and more realistic, and you can take my word for it - I grew up in that time and not far away from that place. Yes, it's got all the things you mentioned, but none of it's done gratuitously. Few of the actors involved are professionally-trained (although you might recognise Tommy Flanagan), but all of them are superb. Please watch and enjoy.

There's strong language, relatively mild violence, some sexuality involving teens, and a brief scene of female nudity. A note on the last element: it's not at all vulgar. I'm generally annoyed by female nudity in films, but not in this.

To paraphrase one of the Viewer's Reviews:

"Ratcatcher is a dreary, grimy film with beautiful poetic visuals, and a powerful haunting atmosphere".

I highly recommend it and give it an 8.6/10.
