Kids Raping Each Other?

Or is it just me? This movie was weird in some parts, especially ones involving the knee-scabbed girl. Were the older kids using her like a rag for lack of a better term or were they playfully harassing her? Why was she not more defensive. All the kids in this movie looked alike so I had no idea half the time if that girl was the boy's sister. And throughout the entire film I thought the main boy was Ryan Quinn. Matter of fact that Quinn boy was alive for the whole movie to me, I didn't realize he had died until that little kid was telling the main boy he wasnt his friend any more because he saw him kill Ryan

it's just you

Yeah it is just you, I don't understand how you didn't know that Ryan Quinn had died. That seems odd. Perhaps you should watch it again.

i understand why you were confused abt the boys - they do look the same in the beginning and i think ramsey does something to lead us to think ryan will be the lead before he is offed - i think that is part of ratcatcher's charm - it requires us to be awake -

as for the stuff abt the girl - yeah, sadly i think that is exactly what was going on - that scene is awful but i think it is powerful partly bcz it is so commonplace, girls and young women are raped all the time in similar situations -
most rapists are not strangers they are people women know -

ramsey does a good job portraying the bleakness of a world where as a young woman living in that neighbourhood the girl knows she can't actually fight back because if she does, the boys will likely get violent and she will get far worse -

since most directors who "make it" are men this is something you may never have seen before but it is part of many if not most women's lives -
we often put out bcz we have some inkling of the repercussions if we don't...
sorry if that sounds awful but i think it is true

I get the impression that Margaret Anne is so desperate for attention and love that she allows herself to be used and abused by the local gang. That's what makes her realtionship with James so sweet and poignant, because he gives her the affection she needs without degrading her.

No offense, but almost everyone there acted sub-normal. They were so poor that they were malnourished and had that idiot kind of attitude/look on their faces.

can enyone tell me if this movie is gory

I agree with J brewer. Probably the intention of the director too ... The bath scene make this clearer. She's naked and is admired, not used, and it's fun ...

Ramsey's touch here is perfect, it could have been so exploitative and voyeuristic, but the performance that the young boy gives her is incredibly shy and respectful for once in her life.

Why don't you people have the sense to tell people that you stupidly put "spoilers" in your answer or in the first post of the thread
