Surprise! Way less than a year... I just watched this movie two nights ago, so my opinions at least have the benefit of being fresh.

I was really really pleasantly surprised by this movie. I had an ulterior motive in renting it, as I'm trying to watch all the prior films I can find with Timothy Olyphant in them. You may or may not know him as Sheriff Seth Bullock in HBO's Deadwood. He's also slated to star with Jennifer Garner in a movie coming out late this year (or early 2006) called 'Catch and Release'.

Even though this film dates back to 1999, it is BY FAR his best role to date (including Deadwood). Just a beautiful man (oh my) doing a great job with a great part. The whole movie was a treat - quirky script with heaps of witty dialog, great physical look (exteriors, set design, colors, cinematography), fabulous offbeat music, and a very talented ensemble cast where every member was just right for their role. Christina Ricci plays off against Tim as the female lead, and the whole movie is what I'd call a fine example of an Oddball Comedy. There's not really much of a plot, but it's not really set up to need one.

And the scene at the end with Tim and Christina and the refrigerator has just replaced Kevin Costner's heaving the bowl of cornflakes into the sink and milk-carton onto the floor (in 'Bull Durham') as my personal vote for the Best Getting Ready For Getting Down scene in motion picture history. "These, uhhh, Kelvinators are... tricky." Lordy! This is no small praise, and worth seeing the movie for all by itself.

So, I'd buy it or rent it, whatever it took to see it. Even if you aren't in schoolgirl-crush mode over Timmy O. like, um, some people are.

Does that help?

I completely agree that the getting ready for sex scene is by far the best moment of the movie. Watched it 5 times in a row last night. I think it's the "yes, ma'am" that did me in.

But all said, I had trouble buying TO and Christina Ricci as romantic interests. I just kept thinking "she's way too young for him."

But that scene. Wow...I want to fall in love with a guy like that.
