LIke the play?

I saw Love Letters performed at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival, and I enjoyed it and I was wondering if this movie lived up to the play although I understand it's performed very differently than 2 actors who haven't even read the skript before.

The movie is somewhat different, in that there are actual sets and more than two actors. But it's still very similar in staging. I won't go into details so I won't spoil it for anyone, but it really has the same spirit as the play. It's not flashy, and doesn't try to take advantage of the film/television medium--which is a good thing. I didn't like it quite as much as the play; there's something wonderful about the simplicity of two actors just sitting and reading. But it's still an excellent movie. It can't help it with such a fantastic script (little has changed from the play), and the actors do a very nice job.

You write about two actors who have never even read the script before. Does that mean that the production of the play that you saw had the two actors reading the letters from each other as if they'd just received them? I just saw a production and they both read their own letters to each other, which I thought was nice since it kept it in the "voice" of the person writing the letter.

Since the play is generally read from the props onstage, it's become a piece that is often done with notable actors who have little or no preparation. They just come in and cold-read the script.

Though it may not be the best way to do it, it's certainly possible. My fiancée and I are considering doing a reading for our guests the night before the wedding.

Hey, how'd the wedding go? Did you read it? I'm just reading the play now and may direct it for the 2012 season.
