I caught this movie on Lifetime today. I probably caught most of it because when I tuned in, they were both still very young, and she was moving away. I thought this was a beautiful movie, and I can't believe they only made it for TV. I guess the format of the film is a little unconventional while the underlying love story is very conventional, but I thought Stephen Webber and Laura Linney were breathtaking together. What was awesome is that even though their scenes "together" are really just him imagining her in his office and they're "reading" their letters to each other without really interacting they have amazing chemistry. What tugged at me about this movie was how their timing was always off, and they kept looking for each other. I remember how life was before email and instant messaging, and I still have all my letters from a boy I corresponded with when I was a teenager. Again, a beautiful movie and a beautiful story.

I too would like a copy of this movie....to burn! C'mon everybody, this movie sucked. It was incredibly predictable, the acting was cheesy, and the storyline was flat out frustrating. I mean, honestly, why didn't they just go on a date?!!? And what was with the fling he had with an Asian chick? Plus, why did he marry such an ugly woman?

I will say this however, the simple filming and lack of sets actually helped the movie. It was a nice break to see such low key shots.

People can be frustrating.

You can buy it on Amazon

Ahhh!!! I had to answer the phone just at the end of the film. One minute she's in a hospital talking about how her daughters won't speak to her anymore, and by the time I got off the phone she had died!!

How did she die???

this film is playing on TV right now! in the UK on Channel 4, at first i thought it was a tv short but then i saw Linney in it and it must've been a full movie. i'm not really into it but when i caught sight of how its actually playing out, ingenious. it's almost like a stage play, with few sets and lots of dialogue. anyone else think Linney is way too pale in the movie, especially in the outdoor scene where she has her blue tracksuit on? i like how she's so free-spirited going off to different parts of the world and he's rigid and strait-laced and very much rooted in his work. Laura Linney is hot and quite an underrated actress, the last i saw of her was in Frasier

I'm from the UK also and I just saw this film on channel 4

I'm not exactly the target audience for this film as a 16 year old male, but I must say I was touched by this film, the ending brought a tear to my eye and has warned me, to cherish those I love in future and to put myself and those I truely love above others as I don't know if it's easier to deal with these situations when you're older, but I don't know if I could cope, I was dead sure it would have a happy ending as I watched it, but as soon as I saw the hospital scene it hit me, he wasn't going to see her again.

The acting was tremendous and for a seemingly low budget film the quality was amazing, I loved this film and I will be getting it, using the links above.

Such an excellent thought inducing film, and I'm not even a fan of romantic films.

How does this compare to the play?

reply

Okay, the movie was nice.. but the play! Wow! I've seen the play (as a reader's theater) 6 times with different actors just sitting down, reading the parts. The impact is wonderful. Loved the play. The movie was fine.

I love Laura Linney so when I saw that there was a movie on with her last night I went up to watch it in bed. Of course I did my usual trick of falling asleep half way through.
This looked excellent and I was really enjoying it; for some reason it really touched me. I think I might have to try and buy a copy.

Wanna know where I got the copy? My friend brought me one pirated DVD. Well we cannot find any original.
I feel guilty but...the quality is super great!!

I saw this movie for the first time on TV yesterday and I was so moved by it. I was bawling my eyes out at the end! I was never a fan of Laura Linney until I saw this. Beautiful movie. One of the best i've seen and great acting. Reminds me a little of the movie The Notebook.
