priest did little to resist temptation

I was annoyed by this interpretation of a priest. Whereas the rabbi was often shown performing his duties at the synagogue, the priest seemed to have an awful lot of free time to hang out with his friends, thus allowing himself to be drawn into temptation by an attractive woman. Because of their celibacy vows, priests are supposed to avoid situations that could cause them to fall into temptation. He seemed like an undedicated, wishy-washy sort of priest to me, so I couldn't feel sorry for him.

I'm sure he was struggling with his vow of celibacy. I imagine many young priests do. Be fair; he's human! This woman was his childhood friend and possible first crush. She reappears a fully grown bombshell and he's thrown for a loop. This seemed realistic to me and a far more compassionate portrayal of a priest than many other movies give us. They are, after all, still men. Men of faith have crises too.

I don't think either holy man was particularly good at their job or serious about their religion. It is against Jewish teachings to have sex outside of marriage yet Stiller's character is quite comfortable with it despite being a Rabbi.

I thought the same thing. She is by no means ugly, but it seemed to me like she was supposed to be this irresistible beauty, and it wasn't convincing. I thought her character in general was annoying. She just wasn't likable, so I don't see the reason the both of them would be so attracted to her.
