I love this movie

I can't believe it was panned by critics. It's one of my favorite horror movies.

Were you stoned when you saw it? I think a "horror" movie should at least have some suspenseful scenes. This was more of an unintentional comedy than a horror movie.

See the original. It's what you can't see that's scary.

There were more unintentionally hilarious moments in this film than 10 dime store kung-fu flicks combined. I endured this travesty when it came out and some of the people sitting near me were damn near on the floor from laughing so hard.

Why can't someone like both for different reasons? The remake is far from a shoddy film and it was well done. The 1963 version is dated but it is a good film. If they were able to do the kind of FX done in the 99 version back in 63 then I'm sure they would have. Don't blame the filmmakers for using technology that is available to them.

Because some people on IMDb want to be considered "critics" with fantastic taste in films (who only seem to like "classics" for no other reason than they're old films). Personally, I think the negative reception this movie has received is mostly just over reaction. It was not THE best horror film ever made, but for the atmosphere alone, I actually liked it.

Absolutely! I really like this film and does rank among my favorites. One reason is the excellent use of CG; one of the few horror films where ALL the effects make sense and are relevant! I guarantee as much as people rave about the original haunting, they wouldn't pay for a similar type film in the theaters today! No CG? They would pan and shun it!

I liked this film. To me its far better then those crappy Paranormal activity, where you dont get to see antything! Its a popcorn flick with lots of effects, wich pretty dated now, were good in 99..
If you want to make me puke, play some Rap music

That's just a lazy excuse. A lot of "old" films are not considered classics.

This 1999 remake was not only inferior to the 1963 original, the remake was just a bad film on its own, even if there'd never been an original.

Non-sequiturs are delicious.

I know this thread is several years old, but I don't care. It was hard to find any positive posts about this movie and I just wanted to say that I really like this movie. Yes, there are some cheesy parts, but I think it's a really unique, inventive horror film.

I don't get the hate for it either. To me the set is worth at least four stars by itself.

I agree!
