... but they ruined it by using the original dialogue. Why bother doing a modern remake if everyone is talking in Old English? I couldn't understand a word of it, they might as well have been talking in Spanish.

Then don't watch it. Or, read the actual play. Or if that's overwhelming try Wikipedia or Cliff Notes. And if that's too much for you, try watching Mel Gibson's Hamlet. And if that's too much try watching something like Slings & Arrows. And if you're still confused, you should realize that this take of murder, incest, unrequited love, madness, political espionage,...it's all already out there in many movies that don't have "Hamlet" in the title.
THAT was actually the POINT of what made this so bloody brilliant,...the original dialogue, performed in a modern setting.
You can see and read Hamlet in all it's beautiful originality in many ways and places. This, however, quite rare. ______________________________________ Sic vis pacem para bellum.
and any number of other adjectives. Also, the dialogue as written is carefully attuned to each character, giving even the minor roles (the gravedigger, for example) a distinctive voice. It takes real chutzpah to rewrite Shakespeare, and unless you're going to overhaul the plot as well (as in "The 10 Things I Hate About You") there's no reason to not let it be.
I find Oscar Bait infinitely more interesting than ticket bait
