Casting A Joke

I'm not sure who directed this or choose the cast, but Laura and Almonzo were reversed. Laura should have had the dark hair and Almonzo the blonde hair. Now Laura was a burnette and they chose this blonde headed actress, who looks and sounds like she could play Carly Chorthio's on GH. The actor that played Almonzo, looked like Michael Landon (Pa Ingals aka Charles) with that wig he was wearing, and lol Richard Thomas as Pa Ingalls, I just couldn't imagine it, his voice was nothing like Charle's should of been and when did Charles Ingall's ever have a beard? Must be they were trying to cover up the JohnBoy Walton Image.

Charles Ingalls was always described as having a beard in the books. All the illustrations in the books have him with a beard, also. But they probably picked Meredith Monroe because she was the best actress for the role even though she was a blond.

You can't really base your opinions of a Little House on the Prairie movie on the TV show, because the TV show was far from accurate. According to the TV show the Ingalls lived in Walnut Grove for years, but in the books they didn't live there long before the moved to DeSmet, Dakota Territory (now South Dakota).

You should really read the books.

In the books Laura was a short brunette and Almanzo had very dark brown hair. When he gave her a ride, she was amazed to see his hair was dark brown, not black as she had thought.

The TV show did stray from the books - which were partially fictionalized, not a true autobiography of Laura's life.

I was annoyed that they cast Laura with shortish blond hair, and Ma and Mary with red hair, other than that it wasn`t so bad ;-)
