Great Movie! One of the best to come out of the 90's!

Good to see a movie like this, a modern day classic! From the get go you feel an attraction to this film. The filming techniques and feel to it comes very good across to the viewer. The best acting comes from the young girl and the flight controller. I put this movie up there with some of the best, the Exorcist, Some Kind Of Wonderful, and many more. The landing of the plane by the young girl, is awesome, you really feel like its real. The shots of the runway on approaching are amazing, I have seen a lot of airplane movies, but none with this kind of unique imagery, closeness, amiable characters, moving and thrilling moments and wonder!

As time goes on, this movie I believe will stand the test of time as good classics do! I highly recommend it!

I haven't seen Airspeed all the way through, when I would catch it at the begining I would be sitting there trying to watch it and I would usually end up having to go somewhere. but mostly I would catch it at either in the middle of the movie or at the end. the pieces of the movie I have seen I liked. I think the ending has a lot of drama when Nicole is reunited with her parents after she lands the plane successfully, her parents are just hugging her thankfully that she made it out of the situation alive. I would be too with my kids or if I was ever in the situation I'd probably kiss the ground if I got the plane down successfully. but I've never been in that kind of situation and hopefully I never will be.

I finally got to see it all the way through. I thought it was a great movie also.

You are joking, right?

reply

well I'm not saying its the best movie ever made, but I still like it.

reply

It's on TV right now, in New Mexico. I want a copy of this as soon as possible. The special effects of the pilots getting electrocuted is so ahead of its time and still fun to watch!

reply

The producer is related to me :) And for some reason, i never knew he made this film.. I just saw it last week.

reply

I haven't seen the whole thing, only about the last hour. I didn't even know what it was called, so I wrote down the name of the actress who played Nicole (Elisha Cuthburt), and looked her up. What I saw of the movie was excellent.

anyone who thinks this is a great movie MUST be joking! the plot is laughable, the script braindead, the performances wooden, the charecters undeveloped, the premise ludicrous, the sets totally unauthentic, the budget lower than low, and just an absolute trainwreck from start to finish!

It is a classic--but not in the good way!

I also thought it was a classic - in a good way. I skipped through some of the earlier parts since they seemed like boring genre staples and wasn't expecting the situation to improve. But once the action started it became truly exciting and compelling. The actions scenes were very well done for the budget and built steadily to a thrilling climax. The characters gradually became more substantial and believable. In the beginning they seemed like cardboard genre cutouts, and many viewers might have given up on it then, as I almost did. By the end I strongly identified and empathized with the three main characters and was literally on the edge of my seat! I think the low budget may have helped this movie since it was compensated for by injecting some real heart and soul into it. The ending is guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye unless your heart is completely shriveled! imho

Yes, classic travesty would be a better explanation of this abortion of a film.

It's an amateurish-looking low-budget feature-length film. Some of the hairstyles are unintentionally humorous. The current rating of 3.5/10 seems about right. Did I mention it's amateurish looking, like a film school project?

reply

This movie is really amateurish. It's not even suitable for DVD or cable TV.

I Must say when i watched this as a kid i thought it was terrific! Only until know im 16 (and a student pilot) do i realise the array of technical inaccuricies regarding the radio chatter, aircraft systems, avionics, air-to-air rescue etc, none -the- less though i think it's a decent movie to watch

reply

I think that's it. You have to be a kid to think this is a good movie. The original poster writes well, cosidering he must be about ten years old. Anyone older would recognized that the plot, the dialogue, the acting, the direction, the plausability, the effects, etc., are all astonishingly bad. The only good thing is that the dialogue is so bad it actually is funny. This movie is a lot funnier than Airplane. Why do they have teenagers writing plots?

reply

I know nothing about planes but I knew throughout the entire movie everything was complete bull $hit. Like how could the girl be the only one not to pass out???? it's freaking ridiculous!!

Willie's Mommy

reply

thats a good point, wouldn't the child on the plane be MORE likely to pass out???

reply

The girl was the only one with oxygen. That's why she didn't pass out.

This movie had the worst dialogue I've ever heard. It made me cringe.

Too much, too soon, too long, too strong, too many,
to fix.

Is this topic a joke?

It's awful - total fiction...

Glades2

P.S. The only good thing was the moral of the story - money doesn't buy a person's life...

reply

You have got to be kidding! this is by far the worst movie i have ever seen--from crappy acting, writing and "special effects" this is really a stinker. You were joking about it being good, right?

reply

Subjectively I have to say that I like this movie. But my objective self is telling me the reason is that it's so bad it's good.

The Crowded Sky (1960)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053742/

This one is the granddaddy of them all Paladin, and kicked off all of those wretched air disaster movies to follow, so you can thank Mr Garrison for that one 😉 (And yes, it kinda sucks. But it might satisfy a nostalgia craving, and it does feature an all star cast of Dana Andrews, Efrem Zimbalist Jr, Rhonda Fleming, John Kerr, Ann Francis, Troy Donahue, etc).
