''Tree of Evil'' -- the only good episode besides ''Shipwrecked''

"Shipwrecked" is in every way the series' finest episode, but "Tree of Evil" is also very strong. There is an uncommon sense of menace and danger in it. The pod-people replicators are genuinely creepy. The silence of the evil Trobbits is unsettling. The idea of an evil tree is itself very menacing. The creation of the evil Blackstar comes as quite a shock. Visually, the backgrounds are all much darker and blacker than at any other points in the series. Even the Overlord's castle is much brighter than the inside of the tree.

If I were going to introduce this show to someone, I would do it with "Tree of Evil" and/or "Shipwrecked," to show it at its best.
