Bozz as squad leader?

Ok...-Why did they make Bozz squad leader? None of the end guys liked him because he was always causing trouble, so why did he make him squad guide?

I didn't understand the scene that happened just before that when they were in the trenches (?) and Miter was telling them to go and Boz said to stay and the Sergant come to talk to them and Bozz gets up and walks away...the Sergant follows him and they have a conversation and share a smoke...Well I missed some of the dialogue and I didn't get it. Why didn't he get in trouble for doing that and why did Miter run away? Was that Sergant a good guy? What did they say to each other?

Instead of answering the second part of your question, I suggest that you rewatch that scene, preferably with captions. Now, I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't feel like typing out that whole scene.

As for the first part of your question, I believe that they made Bozz squad leader because he was the only one causing trouble. When Miter was squad leader, Bozz would screw up and Miter would get in trouble for it. I think they rationalized that if Bozz was gonna be the one to fool around, he should get punished for it. It also might do with the fact that Bozz cared for the squad. In the trench scene, he kept telling them to stay down because the M-16's were "cutting through their path." He probably earned a lot of respect from the rest of the squad and that would have made him a better leader.

THanks for answering my question. I would of rewinded that scene (with captions) if I had the DVD, but I live in a really small french town where they don't have that movie or any movies unless they are major blockbusters...so I had to download it off the internet, which wasn't very good quality. Anyways...thanks.

My impression was that the Sergeant saw something in Bozz that he liked, even if it went against orders. Maybe he thought he would keep his men alive if he gave him responsiblility for them.

I got that impression also. That "thing" he saw and liked in Bozz could have been the care for his squad and natural leadership skills, which kinda coincides with what I stated earlier.

i was confused about that scene in the trench too.
why was bozz saying "stay down" when the exercise was over, or at least suspended. and why were the men listening to him when their squad leader plus all those trainer guys were saying "move it". Its not like the m60's had live ammo in, and wernt firng anyway.

and also while boz and the sargeant were having their little smoke, some guy (the squad leader i think" was getting the *beep* kicked out of him the whole time!! why?

actually, the 60's DID have live ammo.
meter tried to run, and failed to control the men under his command, which is why he was getting the crap knocked out of him by the one sgt.
