The grinch showed up and was good but mayor then gave him that razor and embarrassed him. Then complained about him being mean well dude you started it.

I agree. The Mayor was a complete and utter jerk and had been since he was a kid. I'd have liked to slug him as a kid when he pokes fun at how the Grinch looks. He and the whole class make fun of him and then they have the audacity to be surprised he goes berserk.

He probably bought some votes and then bullied the rest of the Who's into voting for him.

And he practically won "The Worst Mayor of the Year " Award when he rigged the lighting constant to have Martha win it when it clearly said Cindy's mom was the winner. And I don't think you're supposed to do that in a constant

You're right. In this version, the Grinch is more of an anti-hero.

I think this was one of the issues with the movie in General. The original story has the Grinch just being a scrooge type character until he learns the Christmas spirit at the end.

In this movie the Who's are worse than the Grinch in most ways, especially the mayor. Only the kid was good. It took all of the Who's to learn the Christmas spirit at the end before the Grinch followed along.

I totally agree. In fact, it was partially the Mayor's fault for bullying him in school when they were kids; and then when he realizes he has competition against the Grinch for Martha May's affections, he played dirty and triggered the Grinch with the razor. I say, the Mayor deserved everything he got on Christmas Day.
