Was Shinji....

"Playing" with himself after she rolled over the unsconscious and half-naked Asuka?

reply

yes

reply

Now thats just sick. Wanking over someone lying unconscious there next to you.

reply

Now, why did he do that anyway?

reply

she was in her panties bro.

reply

The reason Shinji did it was because he was so desperate for comfort. His life has gone straight down the plug hole and he is clearly not thinking straight. He feels as if nobody can help him but Asuka. He begs for her to help him but to no avail. Finally when he sees her nude, his deluded mind sees one last desperate attempt at comfort.

Is he proud of what he did? What he says afterwards sums it up.

And so we have a scene which though it is disturbing, is also brilliant for a work of fiction.

Wow... that's the very first time I've heard about this little detail. I've watched that movie so many times I can't even count but I've never noticed that. That's the thing with this movie, there's so many little details that you have to pay such close attention to the movie to actually notice them.

reply

"playing with himself"

I haven't heard that phrase since I was a kid.

I wonder if it made him go blind?.

He got hairy palms.

It's about time some part of him got hairy, according to episode 2 he doesn't even have pubic hair.

Well I could've used something like;

"Beating off his meat", "Spanking the monkey", "Taking palm-ela out on a date", "Paying a little visit to Dr. Palm", "Cleaning out the pipes", "Stroking his sausage", "Consult Hans Jerkov", "Bashing the bishop".

lol

alternetively

W*nking, wacking off, jerking off, petting the one eyed snake, stroking his fireman, playing with his instrument, the list goes on.

'Shaking white coconut off the Great Love Tree' is my personal favourite.

I lost respect for Shinji after that. How can you be sympathetic towards a pervert?

Is beating off considered perverted?

I was under the impression that masterbation was considered normal in America and that prety much every American boy does it as a teen. At least that's the impression that I get from American television.

I was watching this with friends and at first none of us were paying attention and chatting to each other than we hear Shinji saying his "I'm f'ed up" line. We were pretty surprised and we skipped back to see what happened, and then I was like "Holy crap, he's pulling his goalie!!!"

Yes, I made a Trailer Park Boys reference on an Evangelion board ... I rule ...

Also, It's been said that at the end where Asuka says "Disgusting/I feel sick/Feel
Sick/Feel Disgusted/Sick" It's about him Doing the dirty over her.

reply

well the one way of seeing it but Hideaki Anno wantes every body to have there own way of see it but in a interview hes see it as shes refering to morning sickness

So all we have to do is waait till the 4th new eva movie

reply

So she's pregnant? Didn't think the two of them went that far.

When darkness overcomes the heart, Lil' Slugger appears...

reply

He's referring to morining sickness symbolicly, not literally.

reply

How the heck can it be symbolic? You're either pregnant or you're not.

reply

Not even god knows what that scene meant.

All we know is that Shinji choked his chicken to a naked comatose chick.

That's probably one of the most argued about scenes ever, in the entire series. Even so, it is also one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. Part of the beauty of the scene is that there are so many interpretations of it; it's really up to the viewer to decide the meaning behind Asuka's final line. I think that a persons interpretation of it is competely dependant on how they have interpreted the relationship between Asuka and Shinji throughout the series.

This, I think, is why Eva is considered to be such a masterpiece. There are not many animes/television series/movies that can raise such discussion on such a seemingly simple line of dialogue.

reply

Don't forget the "Liar" bit, that scene is pretty much a craze in the Eva Imdb message board.

reply

the one thing which i always thought about was that i heard that when they were recording for the last scene of end of evangelion, their was an argument about how Yûko Miyamura (voice actor for Asuka) should deliever the line "I feel sick/disgusting/(whatever)." Anno gave this explanation (from wikipedia);

"Concerning the final line we adopted, I'm not sure whether I should say about it in fact. At last Anno asked me 'Miyamura, just imagine you are sleeping in your bed and a stranger sneaks into your room. He can rape you anytime as you are asleep but he doesn't. Instead, he masturbates looking at you, when you wake up and know what he did to you. What do you think you would say?' I had been thinking he was a strange man, but at that moment I felt disgusting. So I told him that I thought 'Disgusting.' And then he sighed and said, 'I thought as much.'"

I always think that he was possibly referring back to THAT earlier scene where shinji flogs his log, and that Asuka somehow knew of what happenned earlier (not good with enterpretating things well, so I understand it is a little literal for Evangelion).

Also for the English dub, "...disgusting" was considered the most accurate interpretation. (The english dub of the last lines are; "How disgusting." if i remember correctly). If this is true, then this also backs up the theory.
