Should I see the other stuff first?

I just rented this from NetFlix and it seems really weird, like random clips or a really long trailer. I have never seen any other Evangelion epsiodes or movies of any sort before. Is this a bad place to start?

i'D DEFFINATELY RECOMMEND WATCHING THE SERIES FIRST. The movie is beautiful. And you'll probably want to watch the series after you see it, so, since you'll probably end up watching it anyway, go for the series.

I only watched about the first 20 minutes of the film. I already sent it back and put what I believe is the first disc in the series in my Queue.
Still, thank you for the advice. I'll watch this one once I've seen the series.

I saw this before I watched the series (admittidely I had read a little about it beforehand); but it's probably better to watch the series first.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Disc 1. You should probably try to find the Platinum Edition, it's the newest. Not too difficult to find.

Thank you. I think it was in my Netflix Queue, but then I switched over to Blockbuster.com, so I kinda forgot about it before someone replied to this message board again.
