This is really good and I don't know why...............

I got an Academy screener of this and decided to give it a chance for ten minutes, and ended up loving it and watching the whole thing.

I don't know what makes it good.

The production values were really, really uneven, just shamefully bad in parts (outdoor shots look indoor, no mood lighting whatsoever) with over the top music that sounded ripped from another picture, but the acting is very good.

I think Laura Linney was miscast here, she's too clean and healthy to play a low class single mother drunk, but Gena Rowlands and the boy were outstanding.

If you have a chance to see this, you will probably like it, and wonder why you are watching this chick flick...
