Continuing Americanisation

Why has the IMDB put the american presenters of Scrapheap above the british ones??????? Is it because the IMDB is american?

reply

Wild guess: Alphabetical order.

BTW, it's Americanization.

reply

No need to guess!
The "Full Cast and Crew" section specifies that it is in alphabetical order.

There is no Emoticon for what I am feeling..!

reply

I apologise for my fellow American who doesn't realise that in EVERY OTHER ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRY in the world, -ize and -ization are spelt -ise and -isation.

reply

The American version of Scrapheap sucks. It's typical of Americans to take a good TVshow and make a really bad copy. All of the magic is lost in fast rockmusic, a loud announcer, 3D animations and a couple of hosts that might as well could be a couple of pornstars.

The british version is without a doubt the best...

hey... look at who makes those *beep* TV shows here and don't randomly flame the whole nation.

We're more annoyed by how terrible most television has become than you could possibly imagine...

Yeah the Brit version is far superior, although honestly I've never thought Robert Llewellyn was a very good presenter; he's piss drunk every time, and doesn't know timing very well.

reply

Robert Llewellyn ... he's piss drunk every time, and doesn't know timing very well.

lol thats what makes him so good!
I think he's great coz i'm a red dwarf fan tho.

If u can keep ur head when everyone around is losing theirs… then u dont fully grasp the situation!

Bit late to this discussion but 'what the hell' :-)

The early 'Junkyard Wars' had the same production team as the US version, in fact the US channel (Discovery?) asked them to make a US version.
They were both filmed in Southern Califoria as they figured the warmer weather would last longer so they could film both shows (as well as having the production team all in one place).

As the US wanted 'their' version you can bet whichever channel wanted to broadcast they would have had a hand in how it was going to look/sound.

Whether they interfered or not, it did end up like most US programmes (compare to the US robot wars style shows etc), whether or not you think that's good or bad is personal choice :-)

reply

Forgot to mention, at the end of the last series (Sunday) they just showed a documentary about the history of the programme.

reply

Really. I wonder who will apologize for the asshat British on these boards, who continue to assume that Americans have anything to do with the remake process.

BTW, how did that British remake of Friends work out?

reply

"Really. I wonder who will apologize for the asshat British on these boards, who continue to assume that Americans have anything to do with the remake process."

One would assume that they are involved at some point along the line

"BTW, how did that British remake of Friends work out?"

It's non-existant, seeing as friends is the second least funny sitcom ever made which is just beaten in creating 30 minutes of sheer bordom and annoying canned laughter by Sienfield. We are perfectly capable of making our own sitcoms, but ours involve this wonderfull thing called comedy, I'm sure we will export it to you one day.

reply

"One would assume that they are involved at some point along the line"

Well you know what happens when you assume. Or perhaps you don't. Thinking generally requires sobriety, which isn't too common in Britain.

Hollywood is a multinational corporation, not an American institution. Americans have little to nothing to do with what this corporation gives us as entertainment. All we can do is reject the things we don't like.

"It's non-existant"

The funniest thing about the superior attitude you limeys have is how often it blows up in your face. First, learn how to spell 'existent'. Then do a little research, my friend. You have stolen or tried to steal quite a few of our shows throughout history, just as our entertainment industry has stolen from you.

"We are perfectly capable of making our own sitcoms, but ours involve this wonderfull thing called comedy"

Yes, the impeccable British entertainment machine. Great shows like 'Coupling', 'Eastenders', 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire', 'Pop Idol', 'Celebrity Dog School', 'Hollyoaks', 'Wife Swap'. Shall I continue?

Television is pap. If you find a decent show you're lucky. Everybody 'steals' from everybody. Get over yourselves.

reply

coupling is good, every country has its own versions of crappy shows

reply

You can't just generalize British TV like that, with every country's TV Programs you have bad ones and good ones. Sure, Our TV nowadays hasn't been so good. But we have 'Blackadder' 'Monty Python's Flying Circus' and many others. I'm not saying American Television is bad, but different cultures and humors have different tastes thats all.

reply

That was, actually, my point.

I do find it funny that people complain about the 'Americanization' of the show - Tyler Harcott is Canadian.

In the midst of all this holier-than-thou ranting, did anyone notice that the show was successful until it was changed? Perhaps the real people to blame are the British marketers of the show, who thought they could reach a larger audience by playing to their ignorant stereotypes of what Americans like.

reply

You really must be running out of *beep* to whine about. It's already been pointed out it's alphabetical, so we'll leave you to your stupidity.

best show on tv is anything without a yank in it

reply

I don't like americanization either.

4 years later.... Days Like These for the win. Now stop complaining about us bastardizing your shows. Leave Donna Pinciotti alone.

Wow, a lot of self-congratulating Brits in this thread.
