The New Adventures of He-Man coming to DVD

Wow it seems this show isn't as fondly remembered as the original He-Man series. Count me as one of those people who didn't like the show very much when it originally aired. To me it was too much of a departure from the original show. It also didn't help that in the first episode (which begins during the original timeline) everyone looks totally different from their Filmation versions.

Anyways, the entire series will be released in the next few months. BCI Eclipse has licensed both the original He-Man and New Adventures. In July He-Man will get a 10 episode "best-of" release. Then ,in the fall, Season 1 Part 1 (6 discs/33 episodes) will kick off the season set releases. After the original show is completed (in 4 box sets), we'll get the New Adventures released in 2 box sets. We're also getting the Christmas Special. Well I for one plan on getting every release. Even as someone who wasn't a big fan of The New Adventures 15 years ago, I plan on buying the entire series. I get the feeling I'll be a lot more forgiving of the show now.

That's good news, although it wasn't my favorite series, I still enjoyed it quite a bit when I was younger.

Wow, it's great to finally see someone else post here. There may be slightly more traffic here when the dvds are released.

Now you're sure the DVDs for this show will be comming out? It's August 25th, 2006, and there is still no sign of any DVDs for "The New Adventures of He-Man." They should have made a new series of She-Ra complete with action figures, but that's another story altogether. I never actually saw a full episode because these ran when my dad gave me a one-hour television limit per day, and I chose to watch "Super Mario Bros." and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" instead. I should have lived with my mom instead, but that wasn't entirely up to me since I was only 10 years old. I want to see what I missed. I still have some of the action figures from the show. I don't know where I put the mini-books that came with them though. They probably got thrown away by mistake.

Yes, they're definitely coming out in either late 2006 or early 2007. Here's a link to BCI's release plans through summer 2007.

I had never seen "The new adventures of He-Man" before either... Guess I had outgrown cartoons by 1989... I've watched most of volume 1 & 2 over the last few weeks and for what it's worth (Not much ), here are my thoughts.

1.) Has a bit of a 'Flash Gordon' feel

2.) Animation has more of an Anime look. It's pretty well done, but the designs are not as imaginative as the original show IMO

3.) The music is nothing special and Adam's transformation to He-Man is weak compared to the original

4.) Skeletor is a lot goofier than in the original, looks kind of silly IMO

5.) Still has the moral lesson at the end

6.) Ink & Paint do great work on their DVD's... The final disc has the last two Filmation/Masters of the Universe documentaries focusing on 'He-Man' fans and the show's legacy

7.) Producer/voice actor Lou Scheimer is the man. One doc on Volume 2, focuses on fans who have kept the show's legacy alive on the net... One of the guys was really sick as a kid and lost sight as a result... He talks about how much he loves He-Man and he is an active member of the site 'He-Man.org' and is doing really great now (Married, kids) and at the end of the doc he talks about how Lou Scheimer had sent him a cassette tape as a kid wishing him well (I guess under the guise of He-Man characters) and he talks about how much he'd love to meet Lou when Lou walks in and when the guy hears his voice he's like "Oh my God!"... Lou was great and the guy was just like "Wow" the whole time... I teared up.

Overall I thought the show was okay, but sort of forgettable.

'Cuz there's thunder in your heart... Every move is like lightning!

I got Volume 1 for five bucks at the Bargin Shop yesterday. They used to have a lot of He-Man related DVDs, including SHE-RA. I was never really into the cartoon, I was a bigger fan of the live-action movie to be honest.
