Pro-adultery movie?

I've heard good things about this movie but the plot summary makes it sound like it is a love story between a married character and another man (could be wrong but that's what it sounds like). That kind of plot usually annoys me unless the spouse is truly abusive or evil. Could anyone tell me, is this is one of those "well, if you develop feelings for someone else of COURSE you should leave your husband" type movies?

Basically how would you characterize the morality of this film?

Polly, I feel EXACTLY the way you do. I don't know the answer because I haven't seen it - but the same thought came into my mind. Such films really annoy me - I wind up yelling at the screen or turning it off. I lose all sympathy for the protagonist.

Well if it makes you feel any better it's not really about "adultery". The husband in question is abusive. He rapes his wife when she's seen talking to another man, and beats her when she dances with a guy at a party. Hardly "adultery" really!
The character's romance actually comes later on in the movie when she's widowed.

I loved this Mini-series and the book it was based on. If it makes you feel any better It's not a "Pro-adultery" story. To the contrary, it is about love that is worth waiting for, the consequences that come from making poor choices and the hope and spirit that can endure even through terrible circumstances.

Don't get me wrong though, it's not for the kiddies due to the adult subject matter, specifically the sex scenes; which are pretty tame when compared to some of the stuff you see on prime-time HBO.

I dug it out in honor of St. Patrick's Day, and thoroughly enjoyed it all over again

Deep down, I'm pretty superficial.
