A few things that seem weird

1. Do parents actually let their 4-8 year old kids go places by themselves? I wasn't allowed to go places by myself until I was at least 11.

2. In "Buster's Secret Admirer", why the heck where they implying a romantic interest between a mother and son? And yes, I'm sure parents can give their kids cards/gifts on Valentines Day and make it completely innocent. It's just, why would you sign it "your secret admirer" as if to say a lot more?

3. Is Purnella actually a loner in the 4th grade since you almost always see her hanging out with the 3rd graders?

4. How old is Molly suppose to be? I have assumed for a while that she was around Binky's age, but she already sounds like she's going through (or completed) puberty. I don't think it was ever mentioned how many grades Lakewood had (like is it K-5 or K-6). So I now wonder if she's 11 or 12 and possibly repeated a grade.

I wasn't allowed to go anywhere alone until I was 13, my mother was very overprotective. Some of the neighborhood kids I knew when I was younger would play in the town we lived in when they were around 8 or 9. In the small town I lived in for a brief time, I would see very young kids running around without supervision. It really depends on the parent and the location. Although on the show, I think the writers just find it simpler to have the kids walk around town without parents than to write them in constantly just to act as babysitters. However, like I wrote, in small towns where everyone knows everyone else, a lot of parents seem fine with letting their kids play without them around.

That was pretty weird. Though I guess they wanted to make it more of a surprise that the 'secret admirer' wasn't one of the girls...

3. Is Purnella actually a loner in the 4th grade since you almost always see her hanging out with the 3rd graders?

Well, she's friends with Marina, who's her own age. Also, it's not that weird. The age gap is only one year. On top of that, I find that most girls tend to distance themselves from 'little kids' once they enter their pre-teen years (ie ten years old or so).

The Arthur Wiki has her as a nine year old 4th grader.

How accurate is that Wiki though? Because I often see a lot of inaccurate info when going through it.

Parents are very protective and perhaps overprotective of their children. But I agree ... Because these kids all have JOBS which is even weirder that they get to walk around as if they are teenagers. I think that is supposed to be intentional.

Those two need to get out more, instead of go out more.

3. Is Purnella actually a loner in the 4th grade since you almost always see her hanging out with the 3rd graders?

The real question is if her older sister Rubella. I think Rubella is 10 in the 5th grade or 11 in the 6th grade and is the only 5th grader or 6th grader that we ever see. She isn't quite Catherine's age. Also it is possible that Prunella and Rubella are Pagans and it was difficult to find friends.

She is supposed to be 9 in the 4th grade. Look at her book illustrations. And later, she probably had an early growth spurt. Or it could be that since every tough customer has an older voice, that it is probably meant to be funny, just like the fact the kids all have jobs is supposed to be funny also.

It's just a cartoon, I guess rules about parents letting their kids out and having cerfews are non existent lol. In Hey Arnold, the kids (who are 9-10 years old) do the same thing.

- well Prunella has her blind friend who's probably the same age as her. Plus Arthur and the other kids are only 1 year younger than her so no big deal. To top it off Binky and Brain were held back making them Prunella's age.

- I agree about Molly, she does seem too old for 4th grade, but then again, maybe she was held back, and kids who develop faster than other ( getting boobs, etc) my guess is she was 11 and a suppose to be 5th grader.
